If you live in Princeton/Zimmerman/Elk River areas...
I also put this on the bump but am hoping to get a few more responses.
If you live in these areas (or close too)..
how do you like the area? What drew you there? If you have children and in school, how do you like the schools?
Long and short: Hubby and I live in St Paul (yes, we know how different it is...)
We are looking for land (for dirtbiking)... I also sort of know 10, etc. driving on it all the time on my way to college back in the day...
We have viewed several properties already, most with 10 acres. Like them but don't know much else about the area (besides statistical data)... TIA
Re: If you live in Princeton/Zimmerman/Elk River areas...
I'm in C. Rapids, but my SIL lives in Elk River with her H and 4 y.o. son. They really like the area, I haven't heard any complaints. Son likes his day care, everything is super close, etc.
It is very much a suburb. Little night activity (nothing like what you will see in Mpls/SP), chain restaurants, etc. But I think you will get that in most suburbs.
I'm in the corner of Rogers/Otsego/Elk River off 101.
I really like the area. It's got the things that we need for weekly errands and shopping, yet I can get on 94 and be in Minneapolis in 20 minutes (w/o traffic). St. Paul is about 25-30 minutes down 94 (w/o traffic). We can be to the 494/169S interchange from our house in 25 minutes (w/o traffic). Hwy 101/169N is better this summer for traffic for some reason and I'm not seeing long lines backing up onto 101. Hwy 10 has traffic in the am/pm just like 94 does. Using back roads I can be in Anoka in 15 minutes or out to East Bethel or Blaine by Hwy 65 in about 15-20 minutes. St. Cloud is 35-40 minutes away.
I wanted to live close to Anoka where I work, but not in Anoka County and this fit the bill. I'd like a few more restaurant choices, but it's getting better. Maple Grove is 10 minutes down 94 for things that ER doesn't have. I have to say though, I don't go north of Elk River on 169 much, other than to ride up to Mille Lacs or pass through.
I don't have kids, but I have several friends in the Elk River Schools and they love it. The school year is a bit different and they feel like the programs available to the kids and good ones. I have family who live in Zimmerman and while they've never said anything bad about the area, I don't know that I've specifically asked them either.
We're kind of going out.
Sue/Mike & Melissa-
LOL. Baby ticker is wrong - just haven't changed it!
Baby is almost 6 months..no other kids. DH is a stay at home dad, works one day a week as a motorcycle mechanic; if we move that direction - he's got a job waiting for weekends (same type of work).
I've made long commutes before (Le Sueur-to-Mpls) which is 1 hr and 12 mins. Did it for a year and a half. So the driving doesn't bother me (I work in DT Minneapolis)
The hubs wants land and a dirtbike track and the land is up there (more than 5 acres--the closest we found closer to the city is St. Francis-with 10 acres) that 'suits' our other wants...
Will keep looking
Appreciate your opinions and insight.
You can also use the Northstar Rail if you live in that area for your commute.
Elk River has its own character to it - not really a cookie cutter suburb, but more a town that the city grew out and absorbed.
