Anyone use Northeast Cat & Dog as vet?

I've heard great things about them but wanted to see if anyone here had experience with them?

I believe Mira suggested them to me a while ago.

TIA :)

Re: Anyone use Northeast Cat & Dog as vet?

  • Nope, we use Southkent on Byron Center/84th.
  • No.  If you're looking for recs (outside of NE cat & dog) in the area, let us know.

  • This is the one off Michigan right?  I personally had a couple horrible experiences with them.  The worst of which being the fact that Cooper had a UTI that we did not know about before his neutering appointment.  He was peeing all over the house, but we thought he was having some regression in his potty training.  He spent the weekend at the vet's since we were out of town and was scheduled to have his neutering done Monday morning. Fast forward to picking him up on Monday...I got him home and he was peeing blood and asking to go out every 5 minutes.  I brought in a urine sample and they diagnosed the UTI. I could not believe they 1) didn't do a urine sample before the surgery and 2) didn't notice he was peeing blood every few minutes.  The poor pup could have had major complications if the UTI had turned into a kidney infection and been under so much anesthesia from the surgery.

The last straw was when I came in to get some vaccines done and asked someone to look at a lump on Cooper's toe.  They told me I would have to schedule an appt and come back!  I ended up switching to Plymouth Road Animal Hospital right around the corner and stuck with them for 5 years until we moved.  They are smaller, but so wonderful.  Dr. Lemke actually specializes in boxers!  Good luck with your decision.

  • Also, NE Cat and Dog charge MUCH more for their surgeries, etc than other vets in the area.  At least they did when I cautiously looked at them for taking the cancerous lump off Cooper's toe 5 years ago.

This is interesting to me because I had an awful experience with Plymouth Road and ended up switching to Westwood Hills.  That was almost five years ago now, so maybe they're better.  Glad to hear you found a vet you're happy with though.  Bad vet experiences are so frustrating.

  • As you know I loved them. They use to have 3 vets there, but one was horrible. We would specifically ask not to see her. She had however been "let go". (this happened within the last year or two). I think they do charge on the high side though.
