So weeks ago I came up with the idea for him and 3 of his friends to go on a deep sea fishing trip for his 40th bday and so he's going to do that next month. Unfortunately the guides have been booked up for month so he has to wait ![]()
I'm really at a loss as to what to do for him on his bday next week. He's not excited to be turning 40 so he doesn't want a big deal to be made, it's frustrating but whatever. When I ask what he wants to do on his birthday he says, "I don't know, something with the family I guess" and then has no idea what he means.
What should I do? Have a backyard barbeque or something with our kids and my mom (we're close with my mom and she's the only family we have around)?
What the heck do I get him? He's so apathetic a/b this birthday and I think it's a GREAT birthday. He has a lot to be proud of, he's done a lot of great things in his 40 years.
Re: DH's 40th Bday Next Week. What am I going to do?
mine didn't want a big bday party either, but i gave him one anyway.
i invited all his friends he hadn't seen in a long time and gave him a surprise party... he enjoyed every minute of it and was glad i did it. i had a big fancy cake for him that looked like the vegas sign but said "happy fabulous 40th birthday jack"... poker chips and cards and everything. i also had taco cabana cater it because they're cheap and i couldn't be cooking and ruin the surprise.
i'm sure most of his gladness came from the fact that i had to clean the house to make this happen... but i think he enjoyed the party too ; )

That sounds like such a great party! LOVE the Vegas theme. I remember you posted something about that, didn't you have a photo booth too?
I think it's too late to plan a party but I probably should have just done it. He was the same way for his 30th bday (apathetic) and I ignored him, had a surprise party catered by Tila's and hired a granny strip-o-gram (she didn't go nude), it was a blast. He loved it.
I'm an idiot! Why didn't I just plan a dang party.
DH runs a photo booth company, so I had Kel call and book him for that night so he wouldn't accept another booking. It was a last-minute so he was going to accept payment at the event... so we didn't have to cough up money to fake-pay him.
His friend took him to Hooters for lunch, got him a litlte buzzed, and meanwhile everyone showed up and I sent a couple of our guy friends over to storage to get the photobooth and set it up in our house... so all DH had to do once he was to the party was fire it up and turn on the camera.
and p.s. if you ever need cheap catering on short notice, taco cabana is the way to go. i did fajitas + fixin's, beans, rice, queso, and chips. crowd pleaser (my crowd isn't too high-brow so you know).

I threw a kegger for DH... Tequila shots and all. He has a blast and stayed up way too late. I invited 150+ people and I think they all showed up. It was in December and freezing and we had them all in our tiny little house. It was a blast! I tried to get sumo wresting suits, but they were all booked...
We did kegs, tri tip sandiches, beans and salad.... and cake.. I was 8 months pg!
