Tricare questions...sorry

This is a post and run but I will be back later to check.

My H is leaving in September for BMT (Air Force). I have heard several conflicting things and I would like to know if you ladies could clear them up for me.

1. I have heard that M and I are automatically covered under Tricare Standard as soon as he leaves. Is this true?

2. If we want to be on Prime, H would have to enroll us in DEERS then we would be covered starting November 1st. Is this true?

3. If enrolled in Prime are we still covered under Standard until Prime kicks in?

If you ladies would like to add any other information you think would be helpful that would be great. Thanks!

2. If we want to be on Prime, H would have to enroll us in DEERS then we would be covered starting November 1st. Is this true? You have to enrolled in Deers period. At our base, we had to go to the Tricare office and sign up for Prime.
3. If enrolled in Prime are we still covered under Standard until Prime kicks in? Yes.

The day my husband left for BMT I went to the doctor and I was covered. I just submitted a claim to Tricare. Although, the standard answer I give is when he fills out paperwork to enroll you in DEERs.

The day your H leaves, you are covered. However, you will have to pay out of pocket for any fees and then file them with Tricare once you are enrolled. You will be enrolled in DEERS with in the first week he is gone. He will then send you paper work you need to take to the DEERS office. You will get an ID card and be good to go. You will automatically be covered under Standard. You can switch to Prime.

Yes

2. If we want to be on Prime, H would have to enroll us in DEERS then we would be covered starting November 1st. Is this true?

No. He would have to enroll you in prime. If he does this before I think the 21st, you will be Prime by the first of the following month. If he signs you up after the 21st, it will be effective the month following. So if he signs you up for prime sept 14th, you start October 1st. If he signs September 28th, you start November 1st.

3. If enrolled in Prime are we still covered under Standard until Prime kicks in?

Yes
