Vacuum rec needed...

We have a lot of carpet (4 bedroom, hall, game room, and 3 very large area rugs).  We also have 4 cats (yes, we're crazy) and 2 kids.  I have a Dyson Animal and it sucks...  well it doesn't suck and that's part of the problem.  I've had it fixed twice and just can't justify the expense to fix it.  I'm looking for a non-Dyson rec...

Re: Vacuum rec needed...

  • We have the Hoover Platinum and love it.  It is super light and works really well.  It came with a portable canister vacuum that is nice for couches and baseboards.

  • Forgot to mention I prefer a bagless.
  • My Shark Navigator has changed my house-cleaning life. I seriously enjoy vacuuming now...that's how awesome it is!

my simplicity is 6 years old and going strong, even with me and my two dogs.  it was spendy ($400), but it's also the only vacuum my hair hasn't killed.

if/when it ever dies though, i'll probably replace it with a miele.  i covet mieles. there's probably something very wrong with someone who covets vacuums though.

hrm.  i don't give my vacuum enough credit.  i was at a shop earlier today, and the owner said that simplicities were better than mieles.  http://www.businessweek.com/innovate/content/apr2006/id20060427_567693.htm

they have since greatly jacked up the price though.  the vacuum i paid $400 for 6 years ago is now $700.  Indifferent
