BGE Peak Rewards

If you have been home when they switched your AC to "Savings" for a cycle, how long did it last? The first time they did it, it lasted 2 hours. I am home today and it has been on "Savings" since 11am, it's 87 in here and I'm dying! I thought they were supposed to be shorter cycles, does anyone know? I did call, I was on hold for 45 min and gave up.

Re: BGE Peak Rewards

  • I'm not sure, today is the first time it has ever happened to us that I've noticed.  We have 2 A/C units, one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs.  When I went to put the girls down for a nap I noticed that it was HOT upstairs.  I looked and it said that it was 86* upstairs. I'm not sure how long it has been off, but I'm assuming it's been off for quite a while.  The downstairs unit is on still!!

ETA:  I justed checked my downstairs unit and yes it's running, but it is set at 83* instead of the usual 76*.

  • If you do the 100% level cycling, it could be off until late afternoon:

  • Ours started cycling mid-day too, and still is.  The last time it happened I was at work, I got home around 5pm and it had been cycling and kept going til 7ish that night.  We do 50%, so it runs 50% of the time that it would normally run to cool our temp down to where we have it set.  Right now it's set to 79 but is reading 83 downstairs, it'll probably go up a few degress over the course of the afternoon.
  • I just checked our account online- we do 75% and they started cycling us @ 11:01, and it's still going 5 hrs and 19 minutes later. it started out that we hag it set @ 75 and it was 79, but now it's 85.  I am going to go downstairs where it's much cooler & I definitely won't be cooking dinner.

  • I just checked ours.  We're set to 50% and we've been cycling for 7 hours and 20 minutes ~ basically since 11am.

  • I got home and it was a sauna!  Thermostat read 86.  I just checked the account and we were cycled for 7 hours and 45 minutes, starting at 11:01.  I think it finally stopped cycling, but I'm too hot and lazy to check.  Before I sat down at the computer, the Thermostat was up to 89.  We are signed up fro 50%.

  • I just signed up, but I'm not scheduled for installation until next week.  So I guess I dodged this bullet.  But check out MyBGE on Facebook.  Apparently there are some very angry people about this cycling event.  I was reading it last night trying to decided if I wanted to change my mind about the install.

We decided not to do this because we have animals and I wasn't comfortable with the lack of predictability with this program.  I like how they said in the original literature about the program that your temperature would generally increase by about 2 degrees during a cycling event.  Seems like everyone is up 15 degrees or more.
