Basement or Pool?

Would you prefer to buy a house with a basement or a pool (let's pretend you cannot have both in this pretend world)?[Poll]

That's a tough one! My gut reaction was pool but I honestly don't think we'd use it that much. I chose a basement because there are SO MANY possibilities there -- laundry, game room, craft room, storage, etc...! Part of it also might be that basements are hard to come by in our area so they've been cool to me ever since I was a kid. Smile

Pools are a lot of work, so I chose basement. Also, with living in the midwest, basements are a plus during tornado season. As long as you don't live in a flood area, I say basement, hands down!

Basement and a gym membership so you can go use their pool and THEY pay to maintain it! I was a lifeguard all through Highschool and college - I can vouch for pool maintenance being quite a bit of work.

I voted basement for the reason the other ladies have already said - the cost of maintaining a pool in both time and money is out of our reach...especially the time! We opted for a place with than HOA that includes a pool. We have to pay a bit extra for it, but it is worth it.

Our basement is a must-have. It is Juan's man space...so a finished basement was on our non-negotiable list when we were house hunting.

I voted for a pool, but thats because of where I live. We can almost use the pool yr round.We dont have a pool becasue DH didnt want one, but my parents do so we are always over there on the weekend using it. We arent far enough above sea level to have basements down here.

I voted for basement.

At least where we live, you could only really use the pool June-Sept. And ditto to the others about pool maintenance being expensive and a PITA.

Like Millie said, the possibilities with a basement are endless- game room, den, storage, man cave, etc...

I certainly wouldn't mind having a pool though, especially this week... Stick out tongue

Pool...absolutely. I have one and we use it every weekend from May through October.
