Re: Nestie Friday: Erin G.
Well, it's officially Friday here, so I am going to go ahead and answer Chelley's questions. WARNING: I tend to be kind of verbose, so I apologize in advance for the length of some of my answers.
How did you start working for starbucks? I was the manager of a salon and day spa that was located in a shopping strip, and I frequented Starbucks anywhere from 1-3 times a day. I got to know the manager (he had a crush on my best friend). When I got to the point where I wanted to leave my job at the spa, I talked to the manager of that store and he spoke to the recruiter and got me an interview for Starbucks. I started as an assistant manager (5 months), then became a store manager (1 1/2 years), an operations project manager, basically a trainer, I traveled the nation and opened new stores (1 1/2 years) and now I've been a district manager for a little over 2 years.Where and how did you meet your husband? When I first became a district manager for Starbucks I had all of the licensed stores in Oklahoma. I lived in Oklahoma City, but half of my stores were in Tulsa so I spent a week in OKC, then a week in Tulsa, etc. One night when in Tulsa I had trouble figuring out what I wanted for dinner. I drove around for about 20 minutes, and finally decided to go back to the Chili's that I'd already passed. So I went and sat at the bar for dinner, and was working on my laptop while there. The manager came around giving these promo scratch off cards to the guests, and he stopped and chatted with me about what I was doing on my laptop, where I worked, etc. Then he went on his way. A little while later, his bartender asked me if I was married. I said "no," and so she asked if I was dating anyone. I told her that I wasn't, and she responded, "Cuz I think my manager likes you." I laughed and told her that he was just doing his job, visiting with his guests. Little did I know that she then went back to the kitchen and told him that he needed to come and talk to the girl at the bar. He asked if there was a problem and she said, "No, I think she likes you." Little matchmaker bartender. So he came over, we chatted more, exchanged business cards, and he called the next day. Oh, and he was originally scheduled to work at another store that night but got changed to this store at the last minute, and I passed the store the first time because I didn't really want Chili's...guess we were meant to meet.
Favorite color? Midnight Blue
One thing you can't live without (Material item as opposed to people) Aveda Lip Tint. It's basically colored chapstick. The sad thing is that they discontinued it. Matt bought out a store's stock for me when we found out they were being discontinued. I have no idea what I will do when I run out.
I'm going to be spending a large portion of tomorrow without access to my laptop, but I promise I will be back to answer everyone's questions. Please ask away!

Questions from Niki:
If you could do any job in the world, what would you do?
I have never been super career oriented. Honestly, all I have ever wanted to do for a "job" is to be a mom and raise my kids well. Unfortunately, finances won't allow that for us right now. No job out there really appeals to me though. Is that awful? I'd like to own some rental property and make an income that way, but that's not much of a job. I don't really know what else.
Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?Yes! At our last ultrasound they told us it was a boy, but I am not going to buy anything gender specific until after my 20 week ultrasound, just to be sure.
Questions from Xan:
What is your favorite season and why? Definitely the fall. The summer is too hot and the winter is too cold. I love the crisp air in the fall and the colors of the leaves (though we don't have that many trees that turn colors here in the south, it's still pretty. The feeling of fall makes me want to bake, watch football, and get together with my friends and family.
How many kids do you want to have? I'd like to have 3 of my own, plus my step daughter. I don't know if that will happen since I'll already be 35 when this one is born. At least one more though.
What's your favorite movie genre? I love psychological thrillers and romantic comedies.
Are you allergic to anything? I'm not allergic to any food or medicine (that I know of) but am allergic to quite a few other things: Pollen, dust, certain flowers, cats, horses, rabbits, and something in things that have a lot of aroma (many lotions, perfumes, etc.) .
ETA an addition to Niki's question about my dream job: I'd also love to be a chef if it didn't require me working in a hot sweaty kitchen for 12 hours a day, or making the same thing over and over. Maybe a part-time personal chef would fit the bill. And I'd like to own a wine bar, but again, I don't want the 12+ hour days that would go along with that.
Is your car running ok today? :-) I don't know yet. I need to get my procrastinating butt out of bed and on to work, then I can find out. I hope so! Ran it about 15 minutes last night after it was jumped, to get the battery charged.
When you lived in OKC, where did you live? In your favorite part of town, the north side! I lived off of May and Memorial.
Do you like beans? I like black beans and green beans. Dislike pinto beans and lima beans.
What's your favorite drink at Starbucks? My daily drink is a triple tall Americano. Occasionally I'll get an unsweetened green tea. I don't really like Frappuccinos or milk-based drinks, so my options are limited.
What's your favorite pastry at Starbucks? I love the pumpkin loaf, lemon pound cake, and reduced-fat cinnamon swirl coffee cake. I also like the reduced-fat turkey bacon gouda breakfast sandwich.
Did you buy that monkey trashcan at Target? LOL, not yet. I don't know what colors our nursery will be, so I didn't want to buy it and then not have it match. Even though it is soooo cute!

What is greatest fear? Wow, this is deep for a Friday morning. Probably getting to the end of my life and having regret. Like not accomplishing enough or investing in people enough. On a lighter note, I'm also afraid of bugs and spiders, bridges, and dark alleys.
What is your biggest accomplishment so far? Another hard one! Wow, you like to really dig in! I'm going to switch this around just a little and say that one of the best choices I made in my life that impacted my accomplishments was to start a business with The Pampered Chef when I graduated high school. I was 18 and shy (had to have my mom call the consultant and tell her I wanted to do it). I had my business for 7 years, and it allowed me to develop an enjoyment of public speaking (I even spoke at our national conference once), as well as leadership and drive. I think that developing those skills at a young age helped me to accomplish the things that I have in my career so far.
If you could travel to any place in the world (all-expenses paid) where would you go and why? Europe, for sure. I've always wanted to go on a Mediterranean cruise and/or tour Italy and Spain. I'd love to see France and England too. There is just so much beauty and intrigue there.
Favorite condiment or spice? I eat ranch dressing with all kinds of things, so that is my favorite condiment. My favorite spices are cinnamon (only in sweet things though), cumin, and chili powder.

How is the chore distribution in your house (i.e.: you do 60% he does 40%)?
What would be your dream car (no practicality or budget constraints)?
Would would your relatively realistic dream car be?
What is your least favorite household chore? I hate all chores.
But if I had to pick one I'd say probably cleaning the bathroom. I love a clean bathroom, but I hate germs so it kind of grosses me out. Plus cleaning the tub is awkward.
Are you generally a neat person or messy? I'm kind of in between. I tend to keep my messes in my bedroom. Usually I have a couple of stacks of papers and junk next to my bed, and my dresser gets cluttered quickly. But most of the rest of the house is picked up. I attribute this to living at home until I was 23, and then having roommates for all but 4 of the last 11 years. I developed the behavioral pattern of taking all of my junk to my room. (On a different subject, it's also caused me to spend most of my time at home actually in my bedroom. I sit on my bed when I'm on the computer, watch tv in my bedroom, etc.)
What is your favorite thing about DH? Oh, there's so much that I love about him. One thing that I love is how he would move heaven and earth to make me happy. Seriously, from small things to big issues, he really is considerate of my feelings and of doing whatever he can to put a smile on my face. And a non-selfish thing that I love about him is how he always wants more. He's not discontent, but he is always looking for ways to grow, learn, and make himself better, and I admire him for that.
How did you tell your family that you were pregnant? I'm kind of no nonsense about stuff like this. I told them, "You need to go ahead and make plans to come to Tulsa for Christmas, because we won't be traveling anywhere." I didn't really plan a special production or anything. Just kind of told them.
Have you picked out names for boy and/or girl? We've picked out a girl's name, and have one boy's name in the lead that we haven't quite settled on yet. Still trying to figure that out.
Are you going to tell people the name candidates? Yeah, although I have a big fear about people hating the names, telling me they love it and then snickering behind my back.
If so, would you tell us the potential list? If it's a girl it will be Vivian Grace (not 100% sure on the middle name) and if it's a boy right now Levi James (James is Matt's middle name) is the front runner, but again we are not positive.
How is the chore distribution in your house (i.e.: you do 60% he does 40%)? It's like 95% me and 5% Matt. He takes out the trash and occasionally loads the dishwasher, and that's it. Oh wait, he also cleans the fish tank and either washes the dog or takes her to the groomer, so maybe 92% to 8% is more fair. We pay someone to mow, and I do the rest. However, he works like 70 hours a week and I work around 40, so it really is fair that I do more around the house.
What would be your dream car (no practicality or budget constraints)? I don't really have one. I like to be high up when I'm driving, so it would be an SUV of some sort, but I am not sure what.
Would would your relatively realistic dream car be? Umm...maybe a Honda Pilot? I'm not sure.
Question from Erin
If you could add any item to the Starbucks menu, what would it be?
Hmm...well, I'd bring back two syrups, valencia and cinnamon (not cinnamon dolce, just regular cinnamon). I loved passion tea lemonades back when they were made with valencia syrup, and don't love them much anymore. It just added great flavor. And my favorite "old" drink was called a Cafe Vela. For a grande sized it was 2 shots of espresso (I did 3), 3 pumps of hazelnut, 1 pump of cinnamon, milk and whipped cream, and it was delicious!
