Is anyone else seeing this pop op on your friends' stauses
I was going to complain about how hot it is, then I realized that: 1.) It isn't 109 degrees; 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full BDU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) There is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thanks to all who serve. Repost so they all know how thankful we are for our Freedom!
It is starting to annnoy the crap out of me and H too.
Re: FB annoyance
I saw it today but FIL posted it and he's retired Army so it didn't bother me. What bothers me more is all the people posting about how hot it is. We know it's hot. It's summer.
ETA: FIL's post didn't have the repost line either.
Yeah I've seen it all over and am getting annoyed by it. Actually I'm just annoyed by any posts about the weather anymore. If I want to know how hot it is where you live, I'll google it.
I think the more ridiculous post was when someone changed it to "I would complain about how cold and rainy it is here, but..." Really? Because yeah, I hear soldiers complaining about how cold and rainy it is all the time where they are.
I laughed at this. Wow just wow is all I have to say about that one.
The Dogs and Us
Agreed. I got called a Socialist this week by stating that maybe, just maybe, the President and members of Senate deserve their salaries because of their special skill set and education (this was a post about the average service member's pay vs. elected officials) and that most service members were doing pretty well for their education level (in addition to the average salary; paid training, BAH, free tuition $$, health care, etc.). I wanted to say, this word Socialist. I don't think it means what you think it means.
I had the same response to many of my friends. A few of them sent me messages that they were confused how I could feel the way I do being a former soldier and having a deployed husband. I had a few snarky and quite biotchy replies to them.
I am not annoyed by the "stop whinning about the damn weather" post. It's true. I"ve spend a bit of time in full battle rattle in 100+ degree weather. I've never been deployed in it. It sucks enough to do it in south GA or n FL. You pull your body armour away from your body and can feel the heat rising out of it. Your t-shirt and blouse are soaked with in 15 minutes. Now put your self in 130* and add in some jerk shooting at you. How about ride around in an truck with no A/C, three stinky dudes and a crap load of equiptment.
I'm not going to whine about 96*, even with the 80% humidity, when I'm sitting in the A/C or out by the pool with a cold beer. My husband is roasting in hell.
The status I've been seeing says 120*. 110* would be more accurate right now.
As I posted on FB, I'll stop complaining about the heat when I'm getting combat pay, hazard pay, and my very on GI Bill.
andalsoplus, if you really want to play the suffering piss match, why don't we discuss the afghani and iraqi people without AC, the dfac, the salary, or the plane ride home in 6-12 month?
**you being general you, not anyone specific.

DH will tell anyone in a hot minute that the coldest he's ever been in his life (complete with ice forming on his nose and a completely frozen Camelback) was in Iraq, lol. After that night he called and said he would never again complain about it being too hot, and he hasn't. This is off-topic, but my point is, apparently it does get cold as a mother-effer over there.
