I got a text message early this morning from my aunt, although I didn't open it til about 10 when I rolled out of bed. It said that Prodigy, one of the family's 6 month old Blue Heeler puppies ran out in the road and was hit and killed by a car this morning. Not only are the puppies family members, they're also workers on the small farm my aunt and uncle run - uncle's a farrier, so the pups are being trained to help keep the horses and one bull herded when they're out in the pasture. That still leaves one pup to train, but it's hard on the family since the dog the pups replaced passed on of old age earlier this spring - they came home from a camping trip and found her laying peacefully under my uncle's rig.
I know it's an odd thing to pray for, but anything you could send their way would help immensely. I know their son and remaining pup are both taking it hard.
The pup in front is Prodigy, behind is her brother, Poncho.
Re: My aunt woke up to a crappy Friday
Aww!!! How sad. Our dog, Jaz, is an ACD. I'll tell her to send all her good doggie thoughts to your aunt and uncle!
This is random, but can I just say that I'm so glad to see that the puppies still have their tails! Jaz doesn't, and while I think it's adorable when her whole butt wiggles, it makes me sad that she is missing such an important part of herself. I really believe it is at least part of the reason she doesn't get along well with other dogs. I blame myself partially too, but I think the missing tail does really matter. It's such a part of how they communicate with each other.
This is my favorite puppy picture of Jaz. ACD pups have the best smiles.

Thanks for the support, ladies. She was an adorable little ball of fluff - I got to play with her and Poncho for a bit the last weekend of June. My aunt is taking it harder than the others, it seems.
Jaz is so cute! What an adorable little face.
This is sad. Sending my thoughts and love their way. And telling my furbabies to do the same.
