Ideas for DH's 30th?

My DH is turning 30 next week and I am a horrible wife as I have nothing prepared. No party. No gift. Between work and the baby I just haven't had a spare moment to even think about what to get him. A party is definitely out of the question. (We're getting together with family on Sunday to celebrate) But for a gift?? I'm thinking maybe massage... He's complained that his back hurts a lot lately, and I know its from all the work he's done around the house, and from carrying Helen around. ;) He has been amazingly supportive as a father, a true partner. And he's always super thoughtful with my gifts. I just feel like a big jerk.. ugh...

He likes disc golf and movies. He's so hard to buy for...

Re: Ideas for DH's 30th?

  • 30 is a big one.  Could you do a GTG somewhere in Pearland where his buddies come, like a Happy Hour or something?  I know you're not a big drinker so that might not make sense but if his friends aren't invited to the family party it might be a good idea.

OR an overnight date for you two in Austin?  You both love austin!

Do you want me to ask J and his buddy for disc golf ideas?  Does he need anything like a new bag, new discs, etc.?  Christian knows your DH but do they talk enough where C would know what he'd like? C helped me purchase some disc golf stuff for my DH.

Is there a disc golf course he'd like to play that requires a fee?  Could you arrange for a surprise day of disc golf for him next Saturday?  DH and Christian would probably help get that together and DH could surprise him at your house Saturday and say "Grab your gear we are going to meet Christian and [insert]" (you like how I enlist him without even asking?  But he'd be game if it's for disc golf).  You could pack a secret little cooler of his favorite drinks and snacks to send with him for the day and a gift card to a restaurant near wherever they play to cover your DH's meal there.

    And completely unrelated ideas:

    What about an IPad!?!

LOL - see above long paragraph.  I don't think they have a 4-some gift card but Red's DH and mine have a mutual acquaintance that mine plays DG with all the time so if Red knows of a 4th we could get it coordinated for next Saturday, I'm pretty sure.

  • Honestly - he might just want a night alone with you - like a date night.  Can you get someone to watch DD and plan a movie/dinner night for you guys?  (FYI - Restaurant week starts on Aug. 1, if you want to give a "rain check" until that time - especially if there is a specific restaurant you've been wanting to try).

This is where my head is at.

  • you know a massage and a date night could be very relaxing.  i like spa milan at CR90 ok.  they will pamper him and then you could take him to dinner. the barbed rose in alvin is delicious. you know i would watch Helen but i also know you are trying to keep big kids at bay so i wont be offended if you dont take me up on it.  DH said he would be happy to do a disc golf day but if your dH's back is hurting it might not be as fun and he might be doubly exhausted the next day.  and dont forget breakfast in bed and a bj is always a nice surprise for a guy.

  • Thanks everyone!  :) Unfortunately, all of his really good buddies are out of town. I think I'm going to go with massage and date night. He has been asking for a date for awhile and my MIL is just dying to watch Helen. We're getting together with his family for sushi, go-carts (the guys) and then the pool. My parents are taking him to a nice dinner next weekend. I'm going to frame Helen's first little art project from daycare for his office. I think with all that (combined with the very expensive video camera I got for him for Father's Day!) He should be good.  (I hope. I'm still a little disappointed in myself that I didn't have it together enough for a surprise party.) Thanks again ladies!!

  • Men don't care about this kind of stuff.  You know why?  Because they aren't women.

My suggestion?  Steak and a bj.  Trust me, it's all he really wants.

  • My husband is turning 30 next month. I think my gift will be skydiving. Something he has always wanted to try and it should make his birthday pretty unforgettable I hope.
