At what age did you have your first wreck?

Re: At what age did you have your first wreck?

  • I put 20-23 because while I was at the fast food drive thru, a truck was backing out of his parking space and didn't see my little MR2 and hit my left tail light.

At 29, that was my first one that I claimed through someone's insurance.  This lady just out of the blue turned into my car while we were driving down a 4 lane street through a shopping center.

I always seem to get hit when I'm going about 0 to 10 miles an hour!!

  • 18. Was not my fault though, I was stopped @ a red light & car ahead of me forgot their car was in reverse. Oops.

forgot?  why was it in reverse in the first place?  that made me giggle.  i can just imagine "oh i forgot my car was in reverse."

  • The lady pulled to far ahead, and didn't want to block any pedestrians from crossing in the cross walk (which there were none)...obviously she had the right idea..Stick out tongue

  • 22.  was backing out of moms driveway, which had a massive shrub on one side that blocked the view of anyone coming down that section of street.  I was backing out, she was going too fast to stop.  broke the tail light and scratched the bumper.  Not my fault.

still got in trouble from parents.

that shrub is now gone from that spot.

  • I was either 22 or 23 - on the way to the river, and DH was actually with me, we were not dating at the time, just friends

I was turning into a toob rental place to go float the river for a friends benefit/memorial and I looked in my rear view mirror and saw a truck flying around the corner, I couldnt turn fast enough and he hit the back of my car...he was on some type of medication he didnt even know what his name was - seriously, he had to read it off his shirt it was awful. Thankfully he was driving a company truck so his job paid for everything

  • 19.  I was on my 610 S and it was raining.  Everyone came to a sudden stop.  I stopped, but the car behind me didn't.  My car was accordioned.  It was 5 months old.  :(

I had one where someone at a red light decided they wanted to change lanes, so they put their car in reverse and didn't even look back.    It was the second time in 2 years that someone backed into me because they didn't look.

  • I hit a parked car looking at my parents crazy neighbor. Geeked I was 20ish.
  • I was 18 and it was graduation night.  I hit one of the medians on Westheimer at 1am.  Took out both driver side tires and had to be towed home on a flatbed.  My mom made it sit in the driveway for two weeks as punishment.  I had not been drinking, but was tired and distracted.  My mom had to come pick us up in her minivan.

  • I was 16...  back in the day (yes, I'm old) you could start a manual car in gear...  It was freezing (in Ca) and I reached over and put the keys in the car to start it...  didn't realize it was in gear.... and it jumped forward...  into our garage wall...
  • I was 16, my fault.  Funny b/c when I got my license, I SWORE I wasn't even going to get so much as a speeding ticket (I was always 10 and 2, and my parents complained that I would drive too slow!).  Then a few months after I got my license, long story short, there was a hill in the way that obstructed my view, so after I stopped at a stop sign, I turned without looking left again, and a car "magically" appeared and hit me.  Everyone was fine, but it was not fun.

That reminds me of my friend who, when backing out of her driveway, hit General Norman Schwarzkopf and his dog. Both were fine, but before she checked on them she started freaking out that her mom would have seen her hit something.

Mine was at 18 and my fault, there was an accident behind me with police and fire truck and one in front of me with police. I saw lights and turned around to see if they were coming towards me and rear ended the guy in front of me. The firemen came over and told the guy I hit to just forget about it because they were pretty sure my dad was going to kill me when I got home. He was starting to complain that his date's neck hurt and the firemen checked him out right there and sent him on his way without my info. (His car was fine). For some reason I remember he didn't know his date's name and they were making fun of him for it.

  • I was 17, and driving a Mazda RX-7. I was taking my cousin to baseball practice off San Felipe during rush hour, and there was a lot of traffic lined up. I was waiting to turn left and couldn't see over the other cars, and decided to go for it. Surprise, a car appeared! Both cars were totaled.

  • I put 16, but come to think of it, I am pretty sure I was 17.  Regardless, it was completely my fault.  I rear ended (barely) the person in front of me.  Damage was minimal.

The oddest accident I ever had was a few years back when I hit a tree on US 59 near the Kirby exit.  A potted tree fell off a flat bed truck, and it was either hit the tree, or one of the cars next to me.  I still laugh about it today.  Damn thing caused a ton of damage, though.

  • 16. Totally my fault, I was being an idiot. My then-boyfriend was in the car with me (I was the oldest of my friends so I was the chauffeur for a while) and I was messing with my cell phone or the radio, can't remember which. Rear ended someone. Oops.

I also got rear ended on the 610 feeder a couple years ago. Those have been my only traffic/driving issues though. Never been pulled over, I will probably cry the first time it happens!

  • i was seventeen and it was not my fault.  i was on my way to my voice lesson after school and a sixteen year old girl was pulling out of a parking lot, didnt look left and pulled out right in front of me.  no way to avoid it.  it has also been pajama day at school so i was in my pjs too.... my parents fixed it but it took awhile and i was basically without a car for the second half of senior year.

  • I've had three wrecks, two were my fault.

When I was 16 I was fighting over the radio station with my friend and rear-ended a truck (i was going about 30).  No one was hurt, but my freaking chevy cavalier bumper got stuck underneath the truck bumper!!!  i was totally freakin' out, lol.  this was before cell phones, so i had to walk to my friend's house and see if i couldcall someone.  by the time i got back, they had gotten the cars unstuck.

we didn't get my car fixed because we'd only paid $500 for it in the first place.

it busted out the front parking lights, so my dad hung two orange bulbs in there with duct tape.  OH MY GOSH!!!!  so embarassing.  also, the car overheated if you went more than like 7 miles.  but damn, that stereo was awesome.

I had a very similar accident with flying patio furniture.  They guy pulled out of Home Depot and didn't tie the stuff down.  I was behind him and as soon as he got a little speed a chaise lounge came flying at me.

Haha - i just noticed that no one responded above 25!

  • my first was 17, got rearended at a stop light. since then, i've been rear ended twice and run over by a bus.....but i've never been in a wreck where it was my fault.

  • When I was 16, I rear-ended someone on 518 @ 35 in Pearland.  I was crossing the railroad tracks on 518 approaching the intersection to turn left on 35, and was looking both ways down the tracks as I crossed.  I hit the lady in front of me, who didn't have her foot on the brake, and she hit the guy in front of her.  Whoopsie!

  • 16.  Turns out it was insurance fraud. I was driving to school and it was before the road was widden to more than 1 lane each way.  With nowhere to turn into or anyone in front of him, the jerk slammed on his brakes. I was in a truck without antilock brakes and the truck could not stop in time.  It was minor and he went on about being glad everyone was ok.  Yep, 2 days later he called the insurance company about his pain.  It was less than about 5 MPH with minimal damage.
