Opinions on blanket please (PIP)

I am sewing a blanket for new baby.  I have cotton and minky... The minky is a bigger piece (and I want to make a BIG blanket)...

I am planning on doing the corners like this ---

How do you think it would look if the fabrics were reversed?  So, the cotton would be on the "inside" and the minky would be the corners?

  • If you are good at sewing I think it will look good. But I personally hate sewing that fabric if it's something that needs to be straight. I suck and it always ends up wonky and stretched out. (I'm not the best at sewing so this probably explains my issue)

Totally, luckly, both fabrics are very stiff (firm?) so I don't think anything will bunch.

I learned that the hard way making a baby blanket for a friend... I have never looked at jersey cotton the same again. ;-)

  • I don't think it will be as "cozy" since quilter's cotton is not typically snuggly blankie material KWIM?  You could do it, but I think the minky will be a PITA to do mitered corners with.

I'm still new to sewing, but the two crib size quilts I've made with minky have been difficult, because it kept slipping around.  Because the quilts were for my own kids, there are one or two spots on each of them on the back that aren't perfect (the minky is bunched a bit).  I think it would be really difficult to do mitered corners with it, but maybe try a few scrap pieces first to see what happens.

  • Are you planning on quilting the cotton fabric on the main part of the blanket?  It will look great reversed.  The combination of fabric is so cute.
