Who do you have for auto insurance?
DH and I currently have State Farm. Both our parents have it so we have also had it since we started driving. Our homeowners and life insurance is also with them. While I do like them and they've been easy to work with whenever we've been in accidents, I'm wondering if we could get cheaper rates. We currently have 500 deductible and full coverage plus state farm includes medical coverage which I like because I had to take advantage of it last year when someone hit me who didn't have insurance.
Who do you use? Did you shop around for rates?
Re: Who do you have for auto insurance?
We have American Family. We are getting ready to switch because I'm DONE with them. My DH hit a deer a couple weeks ago and they have been everything but helpful with the whole situation.
We are getting ready to shop around and so are DH's parents who go through the same guy.
TTC #1 since 08/11 IUI#2 = BFP!
We have Allstate. I love them. We have home, auto and landlord insurance right now and they have been great to deal with. We had a home claim a couple of years ago after a tornado/microburst tore off our screen porch and a couple of auto claims. I have totaled 2 cars in 9 years with them (once I got hit, the other I hit someone) and they were great. (And haven't dropped us because of claims!)

We have Farm Bureau and have been happy with them. When we shopped around like 5 yrs ago they were the best. We havent had any claims, so not sure on that end.
I was with American Family before my H and I loved them. BUT again didnt have any claims so not sure on that aspect!
We had State Farm (Niki's hubby ^^) but unfortunately we had to switch due to an incident that would have raised our rates ENORMOUSLY. We also refinanced our house and got it cheaper somewhere else too (can't think of where right now). Originally, everything (house, cars, ring, life insur) was with SF but now we got much better rates with life insurance somewhere else, Cars are through Progressive, and house/ring are somewhere else.
Loved SF but it came down to hundreds of dollars in difference. Like to insure DH to drive the car only was about 900 bucks/6 months! Progressive is around $800 for him to drive BOTH!

He is actually a ton closer to our house than our current agent. Do you think that the an agent with the same company could get better rates?
I feel like we pay out the asss for State Farm, but they really do rock: In the past month, half a tree fell on top of my car and with no questions asked, totaled it (giving me about double than what I expected), reimbursed us for all of the tree clean-up (plus extra to take down the rest the rest of the limb that was still on the tree), reimbursed us for having to have an electrician come out to restore electricity to our home (on a Saturday) and reimbursed us for a new carseat. I was ready to come out swinging, because I know how insurance companies can be, but they were awesome.
Another note, in about 2003 or 2004, I was t-boned by a kid who ran a stop sign and his insurance company sucked; they were awful, AWFUL to me (even though I had zero fault in this accident). I called our SF agent and he ended up taking care of everything so I didn't even have to deal with the adjuster (or this kid's dad, who was trying to pay me off).
I think, like with lots of other things, it's a "get what you pay for" situation with insurance.
That is what I'm afraid of is we won't get the extra perks that SF has. I was hit last year by a girl with no insurance. I got a shiiit ton for my car - way more than I could have sold it for and all my medical paid for because I have medical coverage. I also got a check for my totaled car 3 days after the accident. Anytime I've had to call SF it hasn't been a problem.
I'm hoping that as I get older my rates will drop - i heard they do again at 25 which is next year. And I also have 1 accident still on there so I'm sure that doesn't help. I mainly can't stand DH's agent but he seems to not want to switch.
