I have been working at a small business (100 employees) for over 5 years. We have not had raises or reviews since 2008. I asked for a review this year since the business is doing better financially and I have moved through 3 positions, implimented several procedures and basically had a promotion (w/o pay increase). I finally got my review (from my supervisor, not boss), 5 months after my request. My review was extremely positive and I received a 5% pay increase, but did not offer retropay (as always done in the past).
I plan to address this with my boss and request retro pay back 4 months. What would you do? Looking for wording.
Thanks!
Re: Late annual review, raise not retro'd...WWYD?
If it were me, in this economy, I'd be grateful I got a raise at all and would not argue about retro pay.
Plus, you say retro pay "as always done in the past" yet in the same post you mentioned no raises since 2008, so you can't really say "as always done in the past."
Honestly, unless you're under a contract for some reason, "retro" is not required by the company. You asked for a raise. They gave you one. Just because it came 5 months after YOUR request doesn't mean they are obligated to meet your time table.
You mention that retropay has been done in the past... 2008 is a lifetime ago in organizations. Things they did back then have little or no bearing to current practices. Just because they did it back then doesn't mean that it will be precedent for how things are done in the future.
I don't see why you would even get retro pay. You say you want it back to 4 months ago but if you hadn't asked for this review you pry wouldn't have gotten a raise anyway. So it's not like they really "owe" you anything.
I think you should just be grateful you have a job and got a raise period. I wouldn't say anything because they could easily take that raise away.
