recommend a vacum cleaner please

I need a new vacum cleaner, and I hate to waste money on one that sucks.  Please recommend yours. Bag or bagless?  Also, if you know of one NOT to get please share.  TIA

  • Do you have a price range? We have a Dyson Animal Ball that we LOVE but it's $$. I wouldn't get anything other than a Dyson after having this one.

    Same here, love our Dyson!

  • I've had both bag and bagless vacuum cleaners, and I by far prefer ones that use bags. When you have to empty out a bagless vacuum cleaner stuff gets all in the air (even if you empty the vacuum outside stuff still gets on your clothes). The bagged vacuum cleaners seem to make more sense because you can just throw that nastiness away. Although, I see there are two recommendations for the Dyson which I think is bagless, but maybe that vacuum is easier to deal with when emptying.

  • My hubby and I have the Shark vacuum and we really like it. I know it is less expensive than some of the Dysons. We have a cat and since we switched to the Shark (from a much cheaper vacuum), our friends with cat allergies are never bothered by her when they come over. I'm a firm believer in the Shark Vacuums and so far we've had no issues with it.
  • I love my dyson... h usually empties it because I have allergies, so I can't comment on the bag less being too much of am issue in our house.

That's what we have as well and we love it!  We just received it as a shower gift and it's amazing.

  • I have to agree with the Dyson Animal Ball. Having animals in the house, it's almost a necessity. It is expensive, but worth every penny. They sell them at Bed Bath and Beyond, and you can use the 20% off coupon!

  • I agree with everybody who said Dyson. I love mine and like somebody else said - when friends come over they don't complain about their cat allergies. I had one friend comment that it was like we didn't have pets at all and I must take really good care of my home (yay!), lol.
  • We have a dyson but we only bought it about a month ago. So far its been great! We have a long haired cat and its pretty amazing how much stuff it picks up after just a week has gone by. We don't really have any problems with not having a bag. But we do end up emptying it 2x at least when vacuuming and our one bedroom apartment is only 640 sq feet. And by we I really should be saying my husband because he's obsessed with vacuuming and decided on the dyson after doing a lot of research on it. It definitely seem a lot cleaner around here though!
