Runners: Give me your tips!
I know some of you ladies on here are involved with running. I'm interested in starting and I'm looking for tips, advice, support, whatever you can offer!
ETA: If it's helpful, the only running I do at this point is across the street to avoid getting hit by a car.

Re: Runners: Give me your tips!
Good for you!
I'd look into the Couch to 5K program--basically it is a program that has you build up to running 3 miles by working with intervals. I didn't follow the program when I started running (because I didn't know about it) but I did start out by running/walking intervals, because, like you, I NEVER ran anywhere before.
Also, my biggest suggestion--go SLOW...slower even than you really feel like you need to when you start. If you start out too fast you won't be able to sustain it...but if you start out slow, you can always speed up!
Good luck!

Also, make sure you have comfortable running shoes. Go in and get fitted if need be, just make sure you have something that gives you the right support (kind of like a bra) and fits properly.
I'm late to the game but wanted to contribute!
First of all, that's awesome that you want to start running. I agree with everything that was said above. I didn't use c25k (I started running years ago) but I have friends who have completed the program with success. They are now addicted to running and racing.
Definitely get comfortable shoes, start off really slowly and don't get discouraged. Some days will much harder than others. You can do it!
Thanks everyone! I've printed off the info for Hal Higdon's 30/30 plan and I'm going to start there, then move onto the C25K. There's a 5K in my area in October, so I hope to be ready for that, but I'm not too worried if I don't. I don't plan on over-doing anything, I don't really have enough time for injuries lol. I started a blog to track my progress, and I'll be posting the link for that in my siggy soon. Thanks for all the support, I'm crazy excited!
ETA: Okay, link in siggy!
