Windows Live Movie Maker

does anyone use it? I just used it and it's pretty good but I can't figure out how you can make it a real movie with chapters, like other softwares let you. Does this one not have that option?

TIA

Re: Windows Live Movie Maker

  • I use it and I hope I'm remembering this right. The way I did the chapters was I made each chapter a separate project file rather than putting everything in one file. Then when you go to File > Publish Movie > DVD, it lets you add the project files you want on the DVD. Add each of the project files and they will appear as separate chapters on the DVD once it it burnt. Let me know if that makes sense.

If you already have everything in one file, just do a "Save As" of that file for the number of chapters/projects you want. Then for each chapter/project, just open the file and delete everything except what you want in that project. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • thanks, Kendra, I will try this and let you know if I have any Qs, I may email you, is that OK?

Was your DVD playable on a DVD player or only the computer?

does it take your movie forever to save? Mine is about 45mins and it took about an hour to save.

    thanks again

Yes, feel free to shoot me an email. As far as the DVD, it was viewable on some DVD players but not others. I think it depends on the compatibility of the DVD player with certain types of DVD disks. I seem to remember that I burned a DVD that didn't work on one of my players so then I burned my file onto a different type of DVD and it worked. So, if you burn a DVD and it doesn't work, you may be able to buy a different type of DVD and burn it onto there and have it work. I seem to remember that it was the re-writable DVD's that had trouble in the DVD player.

As far as the saving, I found that the program started locking up and not working propertly once I started getting over 30 minutes of footage (I had a mix of photos, movies, and music). So, that's another reason that breaking it up into separate projects was a good idea. If you put everything into one project, the program starts to have problems. For me, I started to have a problem where it wouldn't let me preview the show.

When you say "Save", do you mean compiling the file or just saving the project (as a MSWMM)? I don't remember saving the project taking that long but I do remember that the compiling process of making the actual file could take well over an hour.

Again, feel free to shoot me an email if you have other questions. I'm actually working on a new slideshow this week so I'm refreshing my memory on how to do everything.
