what do you put in your smoothies?!

So I'm just starting to make smoothies and they are really just for Oliver... I'm just getting started and am curious to know what you put in your smoothies (especially if they are for your LO)?

I just did the frozen berries (that we picked), organic yogurt, a dab of apple juice and some spinach.  Oliver loved it!

Does anyone add protein or anything if giving to your LO?

Re: what do you put in your smoothies?!

  • I add all kinds of fruits/veggies depending on what I want. I have found that I'm not fond of carrot.

As for protein - that is what is in the yogurt. I tend to use a greek yogurt.

  • I like just using frozen fruit and milk (1 cup of each).  A little yogurt or banana would be a good addition, too, but I haven't tried it (I'm allergic to bananas, otherwise I would definitely use one since I love them).

  • AE Vanilla Greek Yogurt (I think it tastes like ice cream), orange juice, strawberries, and bananas.  I kind of think it tastes like a Strawberry Orange Julius but without any sugar added -- just sugars from the fruits.  The porportion I use for two smoothies is 1 yogurt, 3/4 c juice, and fruit to taste.

  • I drink a protein smoothie every morning for breakfast, my bag of protein powder says to not give to a child under 4. But I'm using it for weight loss.

I know I have given Ella some of H's 100%whey before, because she wasn't eating. But whey was/is in formula, so I didn't see much harm in that.

Some of my mixes, almond milk and cocoa powder for a mocha turtle style. I always add ice to give it some thickness.

    Strawberry & bananas.

    Peaches & almond milk.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

  • This morning Neena had one with mango, banana, honey, milk, ice, and wheat germ.

We do a lot of fruit with yogurt-- Neena especially loves them in popsicle form.

  • wheat germ, honey, ground flax, little bit of milk, blueberries, mango, strawberries, banana & rasberries.  OMG so delicious!  Cole almost drank a whole pitcher by himself.  I also freeze this mix as popsicles for Cole and he goes nuts for them!  I just use all frozen organic fruit from TJ's.

  • I generally do: Blueberries, Bananas, Yogurt and Whole Milk.  I add all of the kids supplements to them and I do use protein for DD (but she's a terribly picky eater).  I also buy the Plum Organics Baby Blend pouches at Target and add one so it also has a vegetable.

I freeze as popsicle and also as ice cubes.  I add the ice cubes to their milk for a little treat.

  • I do containers of greek yogurt, 2 cups of milk and whatever fruits/veggies that I have on hand.  It makes a huge batch, so I freeze it in single serving portions.
