Clicky Poll: Peanut butter jelly time!

Re: Clicky Poll: Peanut butter jelly time!

  • I have been craving a PB&J lately and this is not helping...

  • So was DH, unbeknownst to me.  And I apparently chose the wrong jelly flavor at the market yesterday.  ETA: I'm in the pb&j yuck! camp and had no idea there were right and wrong flavors.

    Oh the humanity! Wink

  • I chose grape, because that is the right answer. but only if it's jam, not jelly.

My favorite pb sandwich, though, is open faced peanut butter and ruffles. heaven.

  • I like any berry flavor, but it has to be jam.

I had pb& strawberry jam for lunch yesterday. :)

I don't really even know what the difference is...

ETA: I like other types of jelly/jam on biscuits or bagels, etc. but only grape on a PB&J.

  • Strawberry and grape. Those are the choices. WTF is this other hippie crap?

I'm craving salt like whoa, so this sounds AMAZING.

Yeah, I don't eat jelly or jam. To me, its vomit-inducing.

The orange/pineapple/apricot nonsense got a big WTF from me. What's funny is that I could do pineapple or apricot w/butter on toast...but it's a big no for PB&J.

Madisen- What flavor did you get?

ETA: Did you make that soup? How did it turn out?

  • Smuckers were bogo at Publix, so I got my usual apricot for plain bread/toast, had strawberry in the cart and then switched to orange because we have this great chicken wing with orange jelly recipe we can use it for.  I had no idea DH was craving pb&j's..or that his 'right' flavor was strawberry. lol

Yes, I finally made the soup last night!  I was planning on posting the recipe tonight.  I used lemongrass paste that I found at Publix instead of fresh lemongrass and I used some lime juice instead of lime leaves.  Fresh Market was a bust.  DH LOVED it. =)

  • I have grape the majority of the time, but I'm not discriminatory on flavor or type, since the most important part to me is the pb. However I can see where apricot or orange would upset a purist :) They have a pretty light taste that probably doesn't stand out from the pb enough.
  • Grape. I also love chips in the middle, which always reminds me of Summer Camp.
  • I voted Strawberry but I love Blackberry too. Grilled PB&J is amazing if you haven't tried it.
  • Sugar free strawberry preserves is the only way to go, unless you ask DH. He likes apple jelly.

  • The only kind I will eat on a pb&j is blackberry jam. Other kinds are ok for toast.

  • Strawberry, grape, or raspberry.  Not all together on one sandwich, but there was not an option to choose more than one flavor, and that is why I picked "other".

  • I just made my daily PB&J and realized I bought jam instead of jelly. I have to agree that jam seems to be better.

  • Incidentally, I had no idea there were so many strong feelings about jam vs jelly. I mean, I get the difference, but I would never turn down either.

I use SF strawberry preserves too. Dh refers to it as "that fake crap." He only uses grape jelly, and both sides of the bread must have PB.

LOL. Well now you know. Tell DH it was his fault for not schoolong you on PB&J's earlier. =)

Definitely post the recipe! It sounds really good. Glad to hear that the substitutes worked. It sounds like they're much easier to find.

I thought the same thing!  Such contempt!

  • I put jelly and white bread at about the same level. They're OK if there's nothing else, but given the option, it's jam and wheat bread all the way.

  • I'm kinda surprised that grape didn't win this by a landslide. I guess I thought that was the quintessential jam for pb&j. I truly had no idea so many people ate it with different flavors. who knew...
  • For me it has to be grape jelly, nothing else.  Instead of chips I eat Doritos on mine.

Jam and preserves are FAR superior to jelly. Also... I don't there has been grape jelly in my house since we've been married. Its gross.
  • DH will NOT eat PB & J.  He eats PB OR J.  Just PB....or just jelly.  He's weird.

Ok, now, bread, I have strong opinions about. Whole grain I can do. White, yes. Wheat, I hate. Hate hate hate hate. I just can't get past the bitterness.
