TC gym with no initiation fee?
I'm looking for the cheapest gym possible. My only requests are open machines. I don't need daycare or a pool. I stupidly cancelled my LA Fitness membership this spring, which was only $30 a month but had a hefty signup fee ($150 + first and last month). Can any other place beat this price, e.g. Snap Fitness or Anytime? I'm pretty centrally and can work out by my home (Mpls) or work (St. Paul). Thanks!
Re: TC gym with no initiation fee?
I'm not sure if there's a Gold's Gym near you but they just started a new price where you pay $14.99/month to use equipment/treadmills, etc or $19.99 if you want to go to classes too. You have to pay $50 to join but thought I would mention it since the montly fee is so low. Also, there is no contract.
ETA: looks like there isn't one that would be convenient for you. They are all in the suburbs. http://www.goldsgym.com/find-gym/

DO NOT go to Gold's!!!!
I cancelled my membership in May and am STILL fighting them because they have continued to charge my membership fee every month. When I filed a complaint with the BBB, this seemed to be a common problem.
They seem to be turning into bally's, which is just as hard to get out of apparently.
Snap and anytime both have joiner fees (I don't know of anywhere that doesn't), but I don't think they're too expensive and I know they run specials a lot too.
We had Anytime Fitness awhile back, there was a location near our apartment. It was good while it lasted, a very simple place to workout.
However, when we wanted to cancel (we weren't going as often as we should) it was a pain in the butt! It's in the terms (we didn't read them) but you can't cancel unless you move away and there isn't an Anytime within 'x' amount of miles from you. Either that or if you had a Doctor's note stating you needed to cancel because you were unable to work out.
So we just dealt with it until we moved (we were moving within a couple months) and thankfully, our new address qualified. Now, I see Anytimes popping up everywhere. They built one where we moved recently.
We signed up with a new Snap location last year and there was no start-up fee. I'm guessing that was just a promo though. I think regularly it's pretty cheap ($50?) and nothing like Lifetime or LA's, from what I've heard.
But I agree with PP- see if you can convince your old gym to let you back in without the initiation fee. Never hurts to ask!
