So in the maze that is the stroller jungle, MrJRM and I seem to be leaning toward either the City Select or the City Mini (it's a cautious lean). Big props to Tim, the stroller pixie at BBB this weekend who is either perpetually stoned or an angel.
I think I recall you all have Baby Joggers. I'm currently liking the one-handed folding mechanism of the Mini. However, MrJRM seems to think the Select is a better choice for storage space, future JRMs (which I am categorically not considerating at the moment...), etc. and is not that much heavier, though it lacks the 1-handed folding mechanism.
I do all my jogging on a treadmill so really this thing just has to accomodate my suburban lifestye. I want to go places and be able to navigate parks, malls, grocery stores, etc. Any comments to help me decide between these 2?
We also contemplated the Uppababy because the kid can face you but it lacks compatibility with some of the infant carseats we're thinking about.
Re: Amy#'s, LD, Lando, Mel & other BJ (Baby Joggers) owners
Ok, I'd forgotten the select can face either way. It was a a lot to absorb all in 1 setting.
We have the mini and love it. Downside: the storage underneath is small, but it's never been a problem for us. Despite living in LA, we do walk, and there aren't curbcuts at all the intersections-the weight is handy for tipping him back to get him onto a curb. We also used it with the carseat adaptor, and loved it.
It's so so so easy to use-I was a single mom this weekend and was able to hold Max, open it up and get him in easy peasy.
I have the City Select and absolutely love it. I had a travel system when my son was a baby and it was horrible. I swore I'd never get a travel system again. I lliked the city select because of the huge bottom basket. The city mini's basket was way too small for me. I also loved the option of it becoming a double in the future. I have the bassinette for it and use it all the time. I felt a bit bratty putting it on my registry since it was $500 but i figured if no one wanted to get it, I'd buy it myself because I loved it so much. We lucked out and my aunt and uncle purchased it for us. It wheels so nicely compared to the travel system we had before. It's worth every penny.
ETA: Ditto Amy on the folding down flat. I have a sports car and the CS fits in my tiny trunk perfectly.
I feel the same as LD. Love, love my City Mini. I like the City Select better, but couldn't justify the cost. If I wanted to spend that much on a stroller, I would have gotten a City Select.
I just don't use it enough to pay that much. I used a snap n go with the infant seat, and I put her in the cart when I'm shopping places like Target or the market. For walks around the neighborhood, recently Em prefers her buggy or wagon. So I only use it about once every week or two when we're out and about.
I held off on buying a stroller until I understood what I needed. The beginning months I used a hand me down snap and go with his car seat. Once he was too heavy, I relied on a hand me down BOB jogger (awesome on sidewalks, too bulky for normal use) and a hand me down Maclaren Volo (easy to travel with but not good on sidewalks and me and my husband seem to be the only people in America who can't open/close the damn thing).
We're flying in Sept so I wanted something in between. I went with the City Mini. So far I love love love it. More support than the Maclaren, reclines all the back for naps on the go, flats pretty darn flat, handles sidewalks well and that one handed open/close thing is awesome. The front/back facing thing doesn't matter to me anymore since he's older. GL.
ETA - I snagged a 2010 City Mini for $60 less than the 2011 at BBB... Only thing missing was is the board for the seat back. TBD whether I need to buy one. It's the only difference between the '10 and '11
