Cleaning cupboards

My oak cupboards look dull and I would like to use something on them to improve their look.  Anyone have suggestions on what I could use to spruce up my cupboards?

Re: Cleaning cupboards

  • I use warm water with dish soap and a couple drops of goo gone and it works like a charm.  It takes all of the grime off of them.

  • I have used Liquid Gold before on our cabinets.  You have to clean them with soap and water first, wait for them to dry then apply.  It did make them look better but I don't feel like it lasted very long, maybe a month?  I suppose a better idea would be to rub with a miniwax with the matching stain/conditioner to what's already on the wood but I've never found the time to do it.

  • I meant to meantion that I have used Old English Oil on them and didn't think it worked well.

  • Car wax. Yep, car wax.

We were given that tip when we staged our old house for sale. It cleaned and shined them very nicely.

Intriguing, I really need to clean mine too. Liquid or paste?
  • Paste. You can do your shower too and it will repel water. ;)

So I won't have to clean my shower as much?
