Recommend your RE

Has anyone seen a reproductive endocrinologist they would recommend? (There were a couple of mentions in the OBGYN thread below but I thought I'd specifically ask about REs.)

My insurance lists 2 RE practices as preferred providers--one with Drs. Awadalla and Scheiber, and the other is Drs. Thomas, Lindheim, and DiPaola. If anyone has seen these doctors, I'd appreciate any thoughts on them.

TIA!

Re: Recommend your RE

  • Who is your insurance carrier? I have United and they work with my RE....

....who is Dr. Jennifer Thie in Blue Ash. She is FANFREAKINGTASTIC. I have PCOS and she actually spend the time - as long as I need - talking to me about various options to manage it. When I told her I didn't want to take meds, she pulled me off of them and talked about all the natural ways to manage it and how diet can make a big difference - stuff my previous doc (in Dayton) didn't have the time to discuss with me. She doesn't order tests or meds unless they're absolutely necessary and explains her rationale for everything. Her bedside manner is wonderful. I'm not TTC yet but I imagine she'll be great if/when I need her when that time comes. I seriously can't say enough good about her, and I generally HATE doctors!

Downside is that you wait a while for an appointment!! I keep forgetting to call for my annual appointment, which will hopefully be in January, and yes, I probably need to call right about now! In the past, though, they've been good about offering me earlier appointments when people cancel.

Thanks for the info. I think I saw the post about her in the OBGYN thread. I have United Healthcare but Dr. Thie is not listed as a provider for my particular plan. :(

  • I've also heard good things about Dr. Thie.  She also does gyn & women's health care, just not ob.  I see one in Dayton for PCOS & I really like him but obviously that's a long drive if you're not in Dayton or north Cincy.  BTW, most insurance companies will cover treatment for managing PCOS, Endo, or another health issue, so that's something to consider if you don't need/want IF treatments.  However, congrats if your insurance will pay for IF treatment with those 2 practices!  I've never used them though, sorry.

ETA-sorry, didn't see your response above!

  • PS-I'd ask over on the baby board and on the IF board.  Even though IF is national if you put something about Cincy in your post people should respond.

  • I've seen Dr. Thomas.  He is great {except if you are looking at using donor eggs.  I'm old (43) and my eggs are not viable anymore}  He will call you with your results & game plan himself.  I haven't seen the other Dr's in his practice yet..

  • IRH (Dr. Awadalla, Scheiber, and Burwinkle) is probably the largest practice in Cincy. They are excellent!! I highly recommend them.

Thanks so much for everyone's input!  And anyone who sees this post later, feel free to chime in--I probably won't be making an appt for a few weeks so I'll check back!

  • A little late on the response, but I super, super heart Dr. Lindheim.  I was initially referred to Dr.Thomas, and although I think he's brilliant, I feel he is much more into the research end of the clinic.  He travels a lot for presentations and I just felt that I wasn't a priority.  Due to his hectic schedule my appointments were always being rescheduled; I saw Dr.Lindheim because he was the only one available during my m/c.  I can't say enough great things about him.  He is very thorough- type A all of the way. I feel he goes way above and beyond typical care. He has an assistant, Amy, who is an OB/GYN and she is also the sweetest thing ever.  They actually gave  me her cell phone number to call her at home in case I had problems or questions while I was m/c'ing.  That was the first time I met her.  A month later, when I was at the office again, she remembered me and gave me a hug and asked how I was doing- before she even reviewed my chart so I know she remembered me.

I am now on to IVF and Dr.L always takes the time to answer every single question.  I just started stims over the weekend and he asked that I call and leave him a v/m so he knows  I remembered.  I've received calls from him around 7-9p, definitely after his office hours, just to check on me. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
