Group photo sharing website?

Can anyone recommend a good photo sharing website for groups?  I'd like a site where a group of people can all upload their photos, and then others in the group can view and download them.  I'd like the site to be very easy to use and not require installation of a program.  And I'd like the photos to be private (password protected for access by group members).

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Re: Group photo sharing website?

  • Flickr is pretty popular.

L uses Picassa by Google, which I will probably start using as well because of the integration with Google+.

  • I think you can do that with Flikr, but sometimes their privacy settings are confusing.

Smugmug would be a great option for what you want, but I believe you have to pay an annual fee to have an account with he features you are looking for.

  • We used photobucket for our wedding.

I created the account and password, and then made up business cards with that information on it.  I wanted to see what other pictures people took.  Only a couple people used the site though.  But those that did didn't have any problems.

  • Thanks!  I'm leaning toward Flickr.

Has anyone heard of 4shared, though?  My cousin recommended it.

  • I know it's not very hip, but I think Snapfish does this.  If you were going to be working with a group of people like my mom, you might have a hard time getting them to use anything that is more niche.  You know?

Yep, that's one of my concerns -- I'm looking for something easy enough for my grandma to use.

I'll have to look into Snapfish.  But my impression was that sites like that aren't intended for people who want to download the original, high-quality photos.  They're more a one-way (uploading) street.

I think it would be too much of a PITA!!! I would either stick with FlickR or something like Shutterfly or Snapfish. I think they have options to share with people, but now I'm wondering about letting people upload to that same file.

  • If anyone's interested, I ended up using Kodak Gallery.  It turns out they have a new beta "Group Album" feature which has most of the criteria I was looking for.  I created an album, and invited people to upload their photos.  The photos can also be downloaded in high res.  And it's easy to use.

My only complaint is that I didn't like their options for sharing it.  I wanted a direct link to the album that I could put in my own email, but that wasn't an option.  I had to use their invite feature.
