Mosquito Repellent Recs

Does anyone have any recommendations to keep the mosquitoes off me while walking? I've tried Off spray and this weekend I used one of those repellent bands I got at Whole Foods and I swear I got eaten up even more than usual. The buggers even bit me about 3 inches away from the stupid band. I'm tired of avoiding certain parks b/c I end up swatting myself and scratching every 20 seconds and I'm really get bored of the only park I don't seem to get bitten at now. TIA!

Re: Mosquito Repellent Recs

  • I get eaten up by mosquitos like I am their last meal on earth.

The only thing that helps me is the Off Deep Woods with 99% deed in it. There is another one with I think 100% deed, also Off, that you can get in the camping section of stores that works awesome as well.

  • I found this recipe for an all natural spray. Haven't tried it yet.

  • Pure Eucalyptus oil (health food stores have it).  It also works to keep bees/wasps away.  I spray my front porch with it to keep bugs away while I'm out.

  • I agree with Jenni - the Off Deep Woods works the best for me. The higher the % of Deet the more effective it is.  I have never tried any of the natural remedies so I can't speak to them. But I live in the woods and if I plan on going outside for more than 5 seconds I have to spray myself down.  I haven't had a bite all year as long as I have used Deep Woods.

  • I have tried the natural stuff and (at least for me) they did not work. The bugs love me. It might work better when you don't get bit quite as much, not sure. For me the only thing that worked is the high deed Off Spray.

Also, if you are outside your house, spray Listerine around the area you are in. That helps a lot too! Crazy, but it does.  It may not keep them away completely but you will definitely see a drastic decrease in amount of mosquitos!

  • I use the deet - I just use a really small amount, dab it on pulse points like perfume.

  • I put dryer sheets in my pockets and that seems to work. And it smells good too!

I did this yesterday and it worked wonders! Not a single bite. Thanks for the tip!
