Have you guys read anything good recently?
I'm in a slump. I've read a lot of crap recently (like really, really crappy chick lit) and need something interesting. I've started a few, but nothing's caught my interest. I have this one checked out of the library that I haven't started, but I'm just not feeling it.
The best books I've read this year other than book club books (loved Seductive Poison!) are Bossypants and Cane River. I'd highly recommend both of them.
Anything good recently?
Re: Have you guys read anything good recently?
Um, considering I use your good reads list as my library holds list, I'd have to say I can't recommend anything
I just finished Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and loved it, but you've read that.
I think I already mentioned this to you, but I am really liking We Need to Talk about Kevin so far. It's a lot different than what I'm used to reading, and the pace is not fast by any means, but I think it's almost like a voyeuristic intrest.. like you had just found her letters and are figuring her out type of thing. It's kind of wordy and rambly, but I think because I am that way too, it actually helps to suck me in.
I realize that's the weirdest book review ever.... haha
I'm currently reading The Horse Whisperer. Never saw the movie, but this book is really good so far.
Recently read:
Song of Solomon Toni Morrison is one of my favorites
Middlesex Phenomenal book, could not put it down
A few Jodi Picoult books, they're all kind of the same.
I think i need to give Middlesex another try. I bought it and tried to read it, but could NOT get into it. I think I actually threw it out bec I didn't think anyone would even want it. hahaha
It was really fascinating to me, especially the historical story within the story.
I felt the same about Middlesex. I could not get into at ALL. It's been propping up our DVR on top of the DVD for like six years now.
But dude, WTF? You threw a book away? You can't do that! Donate it to the library or goodwill! All I can think of now is Fahrenheit 451. lol
This sounds awesome! Just added to the list and I'll check the library for it tomorrow.
Really surprised by the Middlesex hate, but I guess I don't really get into all the chick lit stuff that most of y'all seem to enjoy so, different strokes I guess.
Love The Horse Whisperer. Turns me into a ridiculous mess every time I read it though.
I know, I know.. I was young and reckless!
FWIW, I'm not really into the chick lit so much either. I just didn't get drawn into the story. Reading for me isn't a normal part of my routine, so if it doesn't grab me to the point where throughout my day I'm wondering what's going to happen... I won't pick it up again.
I'm currently in the middle of 3 books, none of which I'd give a glowing recommendation. One of them is 'Atlas Shrugged' which is supposed to be really good. But I'm only in Chapter 2 so I can't speak to that yet, hopefully it will turn out to be really great. MH loves it.
I recently read 'Julie and Julia', which got mixed reviews but I really liked it.
Other books I've recently enjoyed:
'The Red Tent' by Anita Diamant
'The Pilot's Wife' by Anita Shreve
FWIW, these are the next books on my shelf:
'Kitchen Confidential' by Anthony Bourdain
'Committed' by the Eat Pray Love lady
My Ovulation Chart
I finished "Groundswell" by Katie Lee today. It was a hot mess of amateur writing. I picked it up b/c Jenn Lancaster recommended it on her summer reading list. It was very predictable and remedial writing.
I forgot to put any holds up, so I picked up 2 books by Madeline Wickham (Sophie Kinsella's - Shopaholic) because I need some light fluff for now.
I keep telling myself I should try the Outlander series again, I got 1/4 through the 1st book and just wasn't into it.
