Sometimes deployments can be emotionally draining. I consider my hubby to be my best friend so it makes me a little sad when he's not there for things like my birthday last week. Sometimes I'm envious of other civilian newlyweds that get to go home to their husbands everyday. So for myself, I'm listing how my husband is still amazing even when he has to miss special days.
1. He drove me an hour and a half away to Austin to eat at my favorite restaurant, Pappasitos, before he deployed (2 months before my actual birthday)
2. He ordered a present online before he left, which was delivered in June
3. He mailed me a card from Iraq, which I received the day before my birthday. It also included a sweet message inside ![]()
These are the things I will cherish versus focusing on him not physically being with me.

Re: Being Positive
Those are all great things for him to have done, what a nice husband!
Maybe also focus on the things that are positive about him being gone, what you're doing with the extra money (hitting a savings/debt payoff goal maybe?), the television you get to watch sans complaints, the snores that you don't hear, etc.
