Swim Diaper

Does anyone use a washable swim diaper? What brand? Do you like it? Do they hold up nicely? With this pool in our backyard --- and as often as we're using it --- I think I should invest in something that isn't disposable. Plus those things are gross. I saw one at Walmart but they didn't have the size I'd need. Recommend please! TIA!

We got an AppleCheeks one from T2B and we really like it. It's so cute. Seems to work really well. I'd buy it again.

  • yes  - I have this one thats in T2B - the Bummis swim diaper. It was a bit more than $10, but hello - its reusable, not nasty, doesnt sag, basically a net/fabric to catch the poop and I can get it to fit exactly how I want it to, and no peeling it off after swim time is done. I just throw it in the wash with his trunks, or hang it up to dry. Better yet, it still costs the same as a pack of swim dipes, AND - you can totally resell it at fluff again if you wanted to. I also like it because I can let Owen run around the backyard with just that on, and its not obvious like a swim diaper.

Ditto... we used it last week at the ocean and it worked out really well.  My only issue was the poop - ugh, gross.  If you're down with CDing in general it shouldnt bother you, but I'll be honest it bothered me.

  • I'm thinking of getting an applecheeks one for when we have swim lessons this winter.

My bf has the one Tiff has and loves it. Fortunately her son hasn't pooped in it. :-)

  • We have the AppleCheeks too.  It's awesome and super cute!

  • We just use a regular pocket diaper with no stuffing inside. Works great.
  • I have a few pocket diapers where the pul has started coming apart.  I've just been using them.

I kept reading that if you do this that you can't use it as a pocket anymore. What's your experience? Do you just have that shell just for the swim diaper or do you use it as a pocket diaper during the day too?

Huh, I don't know why? Is chlorine/pool water supposed to be hard on the PUL? Maybe it is, or maybe there's another reason, but FWIW we just grab any old diaper & use it. No problems. We did this for our older son too (same diapers, so they must have held up pretty well!)

I think the chlorine is hard on the PUL, like it starts to break it down. I don't have any pockets I'm willing to ruin, even if I don't use them. I'd rather sell them. If I had one that was already delaminating then i'd be doing this in a heartbeat. I think i need to invest in a swim diaper. I have used a pocket (no stuffing) at the lake though.

  • Yeah, Jess from T2B told me one time that it's because the chlorine is hard on the PUL because I had done that before too.  But, then the more I thought about it, I had only done it in the lake, so no chlorine!  :-)

  • I think chlorine is a no-no.  I sent an old unstuffed pocket to daycare for E's swim diaper (no chlorine risk) but I still wouldnt' use it as a diaper afterwards.

We have been using any of our diapers as swim dipes for years (as in we still have many of the same diapers we used for 3+ years on DS1, and have been using now for 19 months on DS2 - so they are over 4 years old). No PUL problems at all. We don't dry any of our pockets, ever, so I do think that helps keep them in good shape. But FWIW we have been doing this with them for years & no problems, with several different brands.
