I have debt ceiling related question

Admittedly, even though I've been lurking on P&CE and trying to understand the debt ceiling thing for a couple weeks now, I really have no clear idea as to what will happen should they not come to a resolution by Aug 2.

Politics and everything aside, should an agreement not be met, what will close down on the military bases and what will remain open?

My main concern is medical needs. We go to an off-base military clinic run by civilians. I'll need a prescription refill that I apparently can't call in until the 3rd and Bean will need a round of immunizations.

I guess I'm just not really sure what I should be doing to prepare for the worst.

Even if they don't reach an agreement, it's not for sure that they would cut funding to the DoD.

That said, I have no idea. I think essential departments will stay open. A lot like it was looking with the budget crisis.

That's one reason I'm a little confused. I was thinking that since it's medical it would stay open, but since it's off-base and ran by civilians that maybe it would be something they would close and just re-direct us back to on-base clinics.

I'll admit that's not very logical, but I've already started tip-toeing into the fear pool.

  • Honestly the slowness of the bureaucracy might help you out... Tricare is like molasses to get anything done as far as I know.

Don't stress out about it, I think most of this is political showboating. They'll "avert the crisis" at the last minute and both parties will declare victory.
