If you were going to get away for the weekend
Within a fairly reasonable distance from the cities (2 hours max), where would you go?
DH is offering to take me somewhere for my birthday, but I'm not sure where to go. It would just be for one night, maybe 2. It's my first time being away from the girls overnight since they came home from the hospital, so I have no interest in being really far away from home. But we need to get out and do something just for us.
This would be in late October. Suggestions?
Re: If you were going to get away for the weekend
Duluth might be an option....there's lots to do up there.
You might be able to catch some fall colors down by LaCrosse or Winona. LaCrosse has a pretty fun Oktoberfest, but it can get a little crazy.
See if one of the casinos has a fun concert or something where you could go & then stay in the hotel (Grand Casino - Hinkley or Mille Lacs, Treasure Island, Mystic Lake)
Bayfield, WI has a fun Applefest in October, however, it's about 3.5 hours away. There are lots of B&Bs up there and cute little shoppes.

Evan James was born 1/24/13 and matched with us 2/20/13. The LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!
I had rec'ed the St. James Hotel in Red Wing to mrsadamswife so I'll rec it again! :-) We stayed in a historic suite with a whirlpool tub and it was awesome!! It was so nice and relaxing to cozy up in comfy chairs in Jimmy's Pub and have some drinks and talk. Love love loved it. We also got massages at the adjoining spa. Breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the river was awesome too.
Two thumbs up!!
eta: Jimmy's Pub.
We got coffees and played games by the fire in the lounge.
Next time DH and I get a weekend away. We are planning to go here.
I love Lanesboro and the drive is really pretty. In fall it would be a great time to go.
