craptastic day

I interviewed for a teaching job at my school, and found out today that they didn't pick me, again (that makes 3 times).

I knew that they would likely pick the girl they did, it would be hard for them not to re-hire a 1/2 time teacher from last year who was displaced, but it wasn't so much not getting the job - as the principals follow-up words.

"you are mostly early childhood anyway, right?? I hate to keep telling you to wait, but I promise there will be a couple people in lower grades retiring in the next few years. In the meantime, if you want to look for jobs other places... I'll write you a letter."

grrr, of all the type cast, pigeon-holed, kiss of death things to say after "we decided to go with someone else"

suck.

  • UGH! I absolutely abhore when someone labels me or tries to tell me that they think they know best for me! How freaking frustrated for you to have the principal decide that you can only do early-childhood teaching!

I agree with pp-- have a drink. You deserve one!

  • in my former school district I was passed over for people with fewer qualifications either because they had been in district longer or were residents of the town and friends with the special ed director... a few positions have opened up and I have been asked why I am not applying for teaching positions and I tell them exactly why... I will not apply for another job until that woman is not special ed director!

So I feel your pain, have a big drink!

OH I SOOO feel you! I applied for 4 jobs in my district, the first 3 I was passed over for I understood, I was new and just getting my foot in the door as an ed. tech, the last one I was more qualified for the job than the person they hired... was an employee of the district and had wanted that job forever! They didn't even offer me an interview, they didn't tell me I wasn't given the job, or that it had already been filled I found out from her parents at the IGA where I worked. Not to mention the girl who got the job is the one girl I COULD NOT STAND from my graduating class... I quit for the district, screw that bulls*** I'm going to go get my masters and do something else.

  • I absolutely feel your pain. I have applied for 20 positions and haven't been given a single interview. I'm most frustrated that one of the principals encouraged me to apply for jobs at their school and I still wasn't given an interview. I'm spent a lot of time in special ed classes this year, I'm anxious to see if I get any calls for ed tech positions in these programs, if not I will probably be leaving the district.
