I hate the hospital.

*Almost* as much as E does. But he's got this painful lump happening, so here we are. It started Saturday and he finally got worried enough (and annoyed enough by my badgering) to let me get him to the ER. Didn't know Monday night was so popular. It's been a couple hours, we had a doc for about 30 seconds, and now an ultrasound. And we're both starving.

Re: I hate the hospital.

  • I hope everything is OK & that the time moves quickly for you!!

  • Thanks.  It turned out to be a supposedly harmless - but painful - cyst.  Precriptions for Ibuprofen & antibiotics, and he's pissed off that we wasted over three hours for pretty much nothing & no answers.
  • Grrr. I hate hospitals too, especially for the waiting!

Do you have immediate care centers in NJ? I know some people are against them, but they seem to be a better alternative to the ER?

  • NJ really really friggin sucks when it comes to Urgent Care Centers. I only know the location of two of them. One is in Cape May which is 90 miles from me and the other is in Marlton which is 45 minutes from me.

When I lived in NC, everyone went to Urgent Care rather than to an ER, and my current health insurance has such a lower co-pay for Urgent Care vs. ER, and yet here in NJ they're few and far between.

    Really sucks.

Larissa, it's like a mini-ER for non life threatening emergencies (broken bones, allergic reactions, dog bites, kidney stones, cysts, stitches)....things like that. Much more time and cost efficient than a traditional ER.

  • Hope he starts feeling better soon and the pain goes away quickly. Yea, I kind of prefer going to an Urgent Care center rather the ER. When I wasn't feeling well one night, I went to the Urgent Care and was in and out within an hour or less! That was my first time going and I was amazed! Hope u can find one in your area!

  • That'd be so awesome. As it is, last night's visit just reinforced E's opinion that all doctors are quacks and he hates them. Initially, she said, well, it's a cyst and it's harmless, so he doesn't need anything else. It was only after I pointed out that he was in pain and asked of he was just supposed to live with it that she prescribed what amounts to 3 Advils. Woohoo. Then when I kept questioning about a real solution, she kept saying stuff like, well the report says X, and I don't really know what that means. WTF?! I considered demanding to see a.doctor who DID know what it means, but E was railing to get out of there. And then the doc pulled a script for antibiotics out of her ass, that she made sound totally unnecessary at the same time. It was bull. The best thing they did was tell E to follow up with a specialist for that body area. Of course, it'll be a fight to get him to do it. Ugh.
  • Ugh! Hope he gets to a specialist. Doesn't sound like something that he can just let go and see what happens... :( But, Ryan is the same way about doctors. Sigh.

  • Where exactly is the cyst? He can get it removed if it continues to be painful. From my experience (and reading thousands of med records), they do typically go away. I had one on my wrist that was never painful and just disappeared. It was gross because I could feel it under my skin and kind of move it around, but it didn't hurt so I never bothered having it checked out.

    Kind of a personal area.

Oh yea, that doesn't sound like fun. He should do a follow up with a non-ER doctor for that then. Poor guy!

Yes way! I wanted to shake her. Nice lady, but not one to instill confidence AT ALL.
