Follow up?

So I posted a question about contacting a former supervisor here: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/55669972.aspx.

I did send an email, and have heard... nothing. Now I know she's superbusy during the summer, and I also know that she's the one in charge of interviewing/hiring for that particular job, so I'm a bit concerned. Should I be? Granted, the job's not a given (what is?) but I really feel that on paper, I should if not be a shoe-in, have a very good chance, due to my having done that actual job for that agency just a few months ago. But I haven't heard from her and it's been a couple of weeks...

So, I suppose my question is, should I send another email? If so, what should I say? Or call her? Or just wait and see and hope? I don't want to be a pest, no way, but I do want to know where I stand. The job's still listed, so I know they haven't hired anyone yet, but I'm getting a bit antsy.

Your thoughts?

Re: Follow up?

  • I wouldn't reach out to her again, but I think it would be appropriate to email or call someone else in the department if you know someone to find out where the status is for that position.

I've found that in the summer it takes a lot longer for interviews, etc. to get set up just due to lots of staff vacations, etc. If she told you to apply for the job, she'll contact you. Hang in there!

  • I've already called the Hiring Specialist (that's how I know that my former supervisor has my file and is responsible for calling people in for interviewing, etc) and that was about a week ago. She was very nice and said that my file is complete and with my former supervisor, and that I will probably hear from her soon.

Good point about the summertime issue. I'll just wait and try to be patient (not one of my strong suits!!).
