Work Related Poll

How do you sign/close your emails and other correspondence for work?

On formal letters I usually use "Sincerely" and on emails, I tend to stick with "Thanks" and "Regards", but I'm curious how others do it.

The legal profession generally likes "Very Truly Yours", and I honestly can't stand that one.

Re: Work Related Poll

  • For me it depends what I want. If I'm asking for something, then I'll end with a thank you. If it's interschool for the purpose of communication, then I'll just sign my name.

Ditto...and if it is to parents it is usually Thanks also.  DH signs all of his with Best Regards.

Sidenote: I had a friend I work with get in trouble for signing an email to a parent with Cheers...apparently the parent took it as a reference to alcohol and thought it was inappropriate.  I think the parent overreacted a bit...

  • If I'm asking for something I write thank you. If I'm responding back and forth nothing. I always have a hard time figuring out what I want to write. I get regards, best, sincerely. I personally never know what to write and feel awkward sometimes ending my emails.

  • I generally use "Thanks." I'm usually asking for something or asking someone to take a look at an attachment that I'm sending them so it works well for me. It also tends to be what I see the most here.
  • I use 'best regards' nearly always for the first correspondence, and than 'regards' or 'thanks' after that.
