WWYD

My laptop charger stopped working this morning. I was going to order a replacement, but DH thinks we should use this excuse to buy an ipad. We were planning to replace my laptop this year anyway. New laptop or ipad? FWIW, I use it for internet and picture storage.

Re: WWYD

  • I would never get an IPad to replace a laptop if you used it regularly like a normal computer. But if you only use it for Internet & photos, I say go for the IPad. They're pretty handy to have.

  • I spilled coffee on my laptop a few weeks ago and now we are considering replacing it with an iPad. Our primary use is internet and photo storage as well. It seems more cost effective to go the iPad route.

Plus as my dad said you can't spill coffee on the keyboard because it doesn't have one Smile

  • I guess it depends on if you edit the photos you're storing there at all. If so, go back to a laptop. If not, an iPad is pretty useful, although I really don't know the feasibility of storing photos directly to it from a camera.

This is what I was thinking.  I'll admit though, I'm not all that familiar w/ iPad.  I'd probably go to a laptop for photo storage...simply b/c I think I'd fill up an iPad too quickly.  There's a web based storage site called dropbox.  There's an iPad app for it.  If you were interested in using something like that for storage, you could access it from practically any device since it's on the web.

  • For Internet the iPad is great. I would use another method of storage for pictures especially if you have a lot of them. DH loves his iPad, he uses it way more often than his netbook or desktop.

  • I would just buy a new charge off ebay.

    Yes

  • I feel like an ipad is fun, but it's not a replacement for a computer. Even the internet browsing annoys me sometimes since you can only have one window open at a time. and like DP said, if you plan on doing anything with your photos other than having them all dumped in one place, I would think a computer would be a lot more useful.
  • Right. Also the downside of internetting from an iPad or an iPhone is the touch screen. I don't care what anyone says--it will never be as fast as a keyboard. Most of the time if I'm reading something on either one, I just don't respond unless I really, really want to. It's a pain.
