My birthday this year is a big deal birthday, not because of my age but because it is my 11/11/11 birthday. My BFF and I have talked about making a big deal out of this birthday for the last 11 years and started talking Vegas last summer.
As you ALL know we are TTC. BFF is a big fan of making plans early and wants to book soon (specifically Aug.) if we are going to go. I am on the fence. If I was to get pregnant this cycle or any cycle between now and November I would still be in the pukey, tired first trimester. I don't want to book a fab trip only to be a Debbie Downer while there. I also don't want to not book on the chance that I do get KU when the last four cycles haven't really done much for me.
To add to all of this, BFF is paying for my plane ticket/my share of the hotel as my b-day gift, so if we wait to book she absorbs all of the additional expense.
Advice?

Re: WWYD: Las Vegas!
I think that while you certainly can do all of the things in anticipation of conceiving like eating right, watching your exercise, taking vitamins, etc., you still need to make plans like you would if you weren't TTC. Once you start trying to anticipate when it will happen and planning accordingly, it just becomes that much more difficult.
Plan the trip and plan to have a great time whether you get KU or not.

DH leaves for Vegas tomorrow for a fraternity thing. We had planned on me going since January. We signed up on tripadvisor and waited for fares to go down. The week we got notification that the tickets went below $200 we also got the ex's schedule and found out she works this week. We have asked her to switch so much lately with other family stuff DH didn't want to ask her again so we decided I wouldn't go. I already knew I was pregnant and I knew I would be tired but I also knew this would be one of the final trips to Vegas for a while.
I would tell your friend that you are down to go but that if you are pregnant just know that you will have to take a nap during the day and you will get more tired than usual but the great thing about Vegas is there are some awesome places to sit and catch your breath. Also I thought I would be sick and puking all the time but I haven't been sick that much at all and if you do get really sick your OB can prescribe you some anti nausea meds to help. My next birthday will be a week and half after I have the baby so I wish I would have done more this last year. Oh well!
I am 100% in the suck it up boat when it comes to vacations, BUT, I voted "See Comments"
Vegas is not really a fun place to suck it up. Even if your not a huge partier, its definitely a place with exposure to heavy smoke and alcohol. Even the best "trooper" in the world probably shouldn't be there at all if pregnant.
Is there somewhere else you might be able to plan to go instead...that has a similar amount of fun and cost? Maybe Cancun?
I voted for suck it up and book the trip. However, I want to also put in my 2 cents.
1 - I've never been pregnant, so you may want to talk to those who have been and weigh their advice more heavily.
2 - On the chance that you do get pregnant, can you still have fun being in "sin city" and being healthy (not drinking, etc.)? I know I could, so I would take the chance. But if you are going to be bummed, bored, etc because everyone else is "partying" and you can't. Maybe it is best to look at something else.

Just from personal experience of having gone through this as we speak:
My first trimester, I was tired ALL THE TIME and didn't want to do anything.
Second trimester, I am not as tired , still dealing with insomnia, but we took our babymoon trip to Florida, and just laid out on the beach and ate good food. I am glad that I went and glad that I didn't over do it.
I would say definitely plan something but if you do conceive by that time, plan on taking it easy on trip ( no late night partying but instead spa time, maybe catch a show or two, go to good restaurants, stuff like that).

These are my exact thoughts. My friends are the type of girls who will feel really bad if I can't drink and will by nature have less fun. I rarely drink much anyway, so the not drinking doesn't really bother me but I know they will limit themselves because of it.
I had also thought of doing a beach trip or something similar. Still lots of fun but less centered on drinking/being in bars/smoky casinos.
Can she not book the trip with insurance in case you do need to cancel?
What about doing Lake Las Vegas or something closer that still interests you and if you are up for it, drive to Vegas and and have fun?
I'm not sure that trip insurance would cover getting pregnant. I found a list of casinos that have smoke free areas:
Gamble in casinos that offer designated smoke-free areas. Here is a list of a few:
? Bellagio designates some gaming areas, including the poker room as non-smoking. They evaluate each pit in the casino and make adjustments day-to-day for nonsmokers.
? Harrah?s has a 1,000 square foot non-smoking gaming section, which includes reel slots, video poker machines, blackjack and roulette tables.
? MGM Grand offers nonsmoking gaming tables and a designated nonsmoking slots section in the main casino.
? The Mirage has fresh air pumped into the poker room and contaminated air pulled out of the building. Not only does this help to keep the air clean, but rumor has it that oxygen is pumped in to keep gamblers awake so they will not leave the tables.
We go to Vegas at least once or twice a year, there is so much other stuff to do than gamble and party. Awesome spas, great shopping, world class restuarants, great shows/concerts (they are all smoke free) and if you stay at a nice hotel, just lounging around in the room by itself away from home can be nice and relaxing.
If you need hotel or restuarant recommendations let me know.
