Re: WR Poll: Pick a job for me

  • any chance you can wait it out, see if new boss leaves and THEN decide?
  • SS here.  I think it comes down to whether you value the flexibility you currently have or the job visibility/growth potential in the new job more.  And that sort of depends on where you are in life (esp. re kids IMO)...  To me, once your salary is in the realm of $100k, a 10k raise is more about allowing you extras toys or vacations more than boosting your housing potential or ability to afford basic stuff.  (Though I guess it depends on your spouse's salary, too.)  If you earn more but have more stress and less flexibility, will you have time to spend that extra $$ on fun stuff or will you just sit on it while you work more?

    Ditto this 100%.

I guess we all can't be SS if we all agree, but I'm with these two. Big Smile

I voted for #2 bc it sounded to me like it would be better in the long run - more money, sure, but also new usually = more fun. Sure, there's stress involved with new, but breaking out of one's comfort zone every once in a while, at work, is a good thing -- growth is good. If the boss of the new dept likes you  (and you like him), that wll go a long way to relieving the stress -- you're all going to be under it, together.
