So, my daughter accidently dropped my cell in the dog's water bowl this morning- so hard it actually cracked the dog's bowl! wtf, with he-man strength?
anyway- has anyone salvaged a cell that's been dropped in water? i've heard of putting it in rice overnight and letting the rice soak up the water. my brother (who works for verizon) suggested using a hair dryer to dry out the phone, battery and charging port. i've tried that. the phone seemed ok but every once in a while the flash will go crazy and go on and off randomly. i can still make and take calls and send and receive texts. i didn't seem to loose anything. i'm just nervous that it will suddenly stop working.
i guess i'm just concerned b/c i kind of need to have a working cell right now- being that i could have this baby any day. (yes i know ppl delivered babies before cell phones just fine but i'm a nervouse nelly) do i wait it out and try the rice trick overnight? or go to a verizon store tonight and and get a new phone? sorry for the rambling. just looking to see if anyone had luck saving a phone in this situation.
Re: Dropped my cell phone in water- ugh!
I've heard the rice thing works, but I don't have any personal experience with it.
If you're that nervous, I'd go get a new one and be done with it.
I think I'll try the rice trick overnight and see how that goes. So far the crazy flash has stopped happening and everything else is working ok. Plus my brother who works for Verizon set my mind at ease saying that it sounds like it's not too bad and I can save it. Fingers crossed!
That's what I get for being lazy and asking my daughter to get my cell phone for me. She picked it up and it slipped out of her hands. The next thing I know I hear a thud and it's in the dog's bowl. Next time I'll learn to get off my a$$ and get it myself
I just read something or saw a video a couple of weeks ago where they tested 3 different phones dropped in water.
the first thing you do when drop the phone, remove the battery and the sim card dry with a towel, do not try to use it, and I think they said not to use a blow dryer on the phones. just dry with a towel as best you can and then stick the phone in a air tight container with rice and dry it over night, or longer if you can.
I don't remember 2 of the 3 phones, one was an iphone, and once it was dropped in water and the steps above were done, it was still pretty much toast.
I'll see if I can find the complete story on it.
Good luck! DH jumped in the pool last summer with his iphone. He tried the rice trick and it didn't help whatsoever. But it doesn't sound like yours was emerged in water for 15 minutes before realizing what you did, so you probably have hope.
On the other hand..my BIL dropped his phone in a lake and took it out and let it dry and it still worked. So you never know.
