Carribean at Christmas

H and I are thinking of going and spending Christmas ( alone ) in the Carribean -- does anyone have any recommendations on where to stay ?

Most likely, we'll just want to lay around, since it will be a short trip ( 4 days ) - so touristy stuff isn't neccesary.

Re: Carribean at Christmas

  • Awesome!!!! I'm jealous :)

We used to take family cruises to the Caribbean during Christmas. It was pretty fun and nice to get toasty and warm again!

DH and I decided that the next time we go to an island, we're going to stay on the French side of St. Maarten, so I would recommend there! It's gorgeous, has some nice culture, not too big of an island, great food and French cafes!! And did I say gorgeous?!

  • I don't have any suggestions, just wanted to say I think this is an **excellent** idea for this year!

  • Nice! If you're like me and think any beach is pretty, we found Punta Cana to be one of the most affordable places when we were booking our honeymoon. We only had 3 full days there and never left the resort. I thought it was gorgeous, though I heard the ocean wasn't great for swimming bc it was shallow. We actually swam in the pool but lounged on the beach.

If you want a town atmosphere and not a resort, I'm no help...

  • If you're just going to lay around, Aruba pretty much never gets rain, so it's the lowest risk of crappy weather. The beaches are beautiful, as are the hotels, and there are casinos and dance clubs. Not so much touristy. I hated it, but that's because I was there for 10 days, with my parents, and I'm not a big fan of beaches or casinos.
  • I've got nothin' since H and I haven't been there yet, but that sounds like so much fun!!

  • Jealous.  That's a good time of year to go. I've been on cruises during that time.  The Bahamas would be easy for a quick getaway.

  • Aruba for shizzle.

Also St John or St Maarten. I don't really like Bahamas though.

We used to do the same thing when I was younger.  And I agree with Jax.  Punta Cana is a great place to go to relax on the beach, I was there a few years back and we never left the resort.  The beaches are gorgeous and the weather was perfect.
