3 is company....?

So H's friend is moving in with us indefinitely...

He got an unpaid internship from August to May at USF and is moving here from Philly (where H is from) and is living with us while he looks for a paying gig at night like bartending or something so he can save up and go out on his own.  H asked me and I said it was ok because I know he would do the same thing for me if I had a friend who needed somewhere to live.  And actually I have kind of been helping out one of my former students financially and H has been supportive of her as well for me.. so I guess we are both just in the helping mood lately.

H and I have lived together, just us, for 5 years now so it's going to be weird I think.  Like I won't be able to walk around in my undies anymore.  Hm.

  • I hope it works out great for everybody. Do you know this friend well?

  • I thought you were possibly announcing a BFP. Darn it, lol. Im sure your new roomie will be fun though :-)
  • I know it's not exactly the same, but it was a change when my Dad lived upstairs in our guestroom until his apt was done downstairs. He wasn't here often but I had to be cautious of what I walked around the house in. It wasn't to bad. He wasn't here alot, and when he was he was working in the office, or whatever.

I thought the same thing!  Good luck with the new roommate, but I'm sure it'll be fine after you adjust.

  • I thought this was a BFP too!  One of H's friends lived with us before we got married for 3 months and I absolutely hated it.  It didnt help that I worked from home and he worked in a restaurant, so he rolled in in the middle of the night and i was one room over working when he was waking up/showering etc.  I'm sure it would have been better if I wasn't home all day.  All I can say is make sure you set some ground rules in the beginning about everything.  Cleaning, having people over, food, etc.

This is why I dread Hannah growing up more than she is now. I do this all.the.time.

Lol, I do also.  I've thought about that.  I will have to change or my son/daughter will be embarrassed of me.

  • Looks like a lot of us thought it was a BFP announcement!

H and I had a friend of his move in with us temporarily a few years ago.  At first, I thought it would be harder but it wasn't bad.  Sure, I had to make sure I was fully clothed whenever I left the bedroom or bathroom but it wasn't bad once I got used to it.  We all worked crazy hours but we had fun hanging out.

  • We have one huge window that looks out to the pool and it is not covered by any blinds/shades. I walk around half naked or in my undies, esp in the morning getting ready, and I realized I have to be careful in case the pool guy comes earlyEmbarrassed

  • I hope it works out well.  I can't really offer any advice because the only men I have ever "lived with" besides my husband (and that only after we got married) were my younger brother (and SIL, nephew & niece) and an uncle (and aunt & 2 teen female cousins).  Obviously, I dressed "decent" whenever at home at these two places, but at least I was related to these guys.  Living with my husband, though, I tend to walk around half bare in the mornings and sometimes in the evenings right before bed. Stick out tongue

I don't think I'd even want one of my husband's brothers living with us for any length of time, and Felix and I have discussed this and he is totally understanding of my position.

    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"
  • Sorry about that, I didn't realize everyone would think that (bfp) haha.

Yes, we will see how it goes.  I do know him pretty well so I feel like I trust him and all of that, and I'm letting H set the ground rules and all of that because he has no problem with putting his friend in his place if he is doing anything awkward like bring him girls - which is not going to happen under my roof. lol.

  • I must be the only one who didn't immediately think BFP.  From my experience, living with friends can work well if you set ground rules and maintain mutual respect.  We moved in with a couple we are very close with last summer.  I mean our entire family of four moved in with them for three months!  And it was great.  We took turns making dinner and cleaning up and we got along so well.  In fact, I look back on those three months as some of the happiest and I think it actually made our friendships stronger.
  • We had a friend stay with us for 6 months while she waited to close on her house. It actually wasn't that bad, she did her own thing really. Good luck!
