I don't get Pinterest

::dodges tomatoes::

Seriously though... what am I supposed to be doing?

Re: I don't get Pinterest

  • I just saw a post on F&B referencing that and wondered what the heck it was. Pinwheel? Pinching? Interesting pins?
  • You are supposed to be scouring the internet for various sources of inspiration and then saving pictures to pinterest for later reference.  In other words, a big board of 'things I'd like to get around to doing/making/reading/seeing'.  I love it for the kids' parties since I used to have a word document with the pics and links but now it can be online where I can access it from anywhere.  I also use it for recipes I want to try or baking I want to try as well.
  • So it's an online version of the sticky notes ringing my desk but with pictures?

Just googled it - cool I guess but maybe I'm simply too lazy?

  • what tracy said!

i've tried a few recipes (including those chocolate peanut butter crescent rolls i posted yesterday) and a few craft ideas. love me some pinterest!

  • I've found lots of great recipes, some decor ideas, clothes, some ideas I've actually even used. It's a lot like bookmarking, except all in one place and it's very visual. I'm slightly addicted.

If anyone wants an invite, let me know and I'll send you one.

  • I get it, but I can't be bothered to try it out :P  I think I don't spend nearly enough time scouring the internet for new information to make it worthwhile.  I don't want to save ideas for projects I could be doing, because I know darn well I'm not going to ever start the projects in the first place.  Call me lazy, or call me overwhelmed with life as it is.

Oh and as to what you're supposed to be doing . . . it's more fun to look at "everything" than just "pinboards you follow." Then you can see all the pins that everyone (all Pinterest users) have posted, and repin them or get ideas from that.

  • someone once referenced it (probably on here?) akin to the knot bios when we were all wedding planning, which i thought was brilliant. you'd have all these random pics of ideas that you liked, wanted to use, etc.  Only it's a helluva lot less effort than a knot bio and it even keeps the web url where you took it from so you can access it later!

  • Yeah, I use it for tutorials.  With quilting and cooking, I compile printouts remarkably quickly, which are then immediately lost in my home.

Find a recipe on a blog I like?  Pin it.

Find a cute baby pattern for a spawning friend?  Pin it.

Must buy quilt pattern?  Pin it.

  • I use it for quilt patterns, home decor ideas, clothes, jewelry.

But mostly for crafty things that have tutorials and directions that I don't want to use. It's a visual bookmark site for me.

  • I have zero interest in Pinterest LOL

I guess this is where I fall.  It's like, I know what I want is out there, but why bother taking the time to find it when deep down inside I know I won't do anything with it...

  • it's greatly helped me visualize what i wanted to do with my mudroom.

also, i feel like ppl pin the awesome stuff that they find on cooking/decor blogs.  since i don't have time to read many blogs, I feel like via pinterest I get to see the best of the best, ya know?  like other ppl have edited it for me.

Ditto this. It's visual p0rn sometimes when I need a mental break from work.

I like the idea, but this is generally where I stand. But I also don't really have any projects going on. I could see where it would be useful for planning a party or decorating a house, though. I'm a very visual person, but I don't really need any more to look at right now : )

  • Pretty much ditto what everyone else said. I read a lot of blogs, and I was always starring posts I liked with project ideas, or good tips and stuff but then I never did anything with them because it was too much effort to go through my reader and find them again and there was no way to categorize them so recipes, interesting links, etc were all jumbled together. Now if I want to do something crafty, I can just go to that pin board and find an idea.

I don't use it much for recipes; before I started using Pinterest I started another index in Excel for those, and now if I see something interesting on Pinterest I pin it, but then I go to the site or blog and copy the link for my index.
