Another post for the teachers...
I was able to get into my classroom today to start unpacking boxes since I moved rooms. It got me wondering...when do you all start back?
Teachers go back here on August 15; Students return on August 22! Yikes!
I know you Northerners don't go back until after Labor Day usually.
Re: Another post for the teachers...
Wow that's early! (But I bet your school year ended in May or early June lol). Teachers go back Sept 6, and students the next day, Sept 7. I am VERY thankful that we go back after Labor day.
I will, however, go in towards the end of August to set up my classroom (usually takes me a day or two)
My classroom is ready for me..but I probably won't go in for a bit..maybe next week to drop off the goodies I've been collecting this summer on sale.
Teachers go back Sept 1 and the kids the 6th. So I'll probably go in that Monday at the latest to start in my room.

What are you looking at?
Kids ended June 9 and we ended June 14...some of my friends who teach in PA got out at the same time lol. I guess it depends on snow days, however we do have some pretty nice vacations throughout the year. I can never complain!
This is where I make everyone else thankful for their school calendars...
We start August 1st. As in.... MONDAY.
It's a mixture of all the following:
I know, right!?!?!? But keep in mind that we get 2 weeks for fall break and 2 weeks for spring break (unless there are a shitton of snow days) and we do our best to be out of school before June hits.
My preschool babies don't come until 2 weeks later, though, so I get to spend that time in screenings and tranings... WHEEEEEEEE!!!
Those are some pretty awesome breaks. What do you do at the school?

I am going to be a preschool aide this year. When I was substitute teaching, my absolute favorite age to sub for was preschool. They all be came my buddies, I loved them so much, they're so stinking cute (even when they're in trouble), and I was always requested when these teachers/aides would be out. But I will not lie and say that I'm not incredibly intimidated by actually having to be responsible for them full time. I really hope I don't fvck it up.
That's great! It's such a cute age. Takes a special person to do that (and Kindergarten). I could never have enough patience for that age.
Our first day back this year is August 29th, which also happens to be the first day of my maternity leave!!!! I think kids go back Sept. 1st.
Liz, yours sounds like of like what we have here as an option called "year round schooling". They basically only get the month of July off, but get a week and a half off in October. Three weeks off at Christmas (which is a week more than the regular schools), and an extra week for spring break (2 weeks total). I have a friend who teachers at our year round school and as much as it sucks to go back in August its nice to have the extra breaks during the school year.
It is essentially 'year round school', but when everyone else starts only one week later, and we all end up getting out around the same time (depends on how many school days the county had), it's hard to think of it that way.
All I know is 2 weeks in the fall is just enough time for the kids to forget everything. And the first year we were here, we lost half a week of spring break. Last year, we lost a whole week. The differences in time aren't enough to justify the completely different schedule. Sometimes we wonder if the long breaks have to do with harvest and planting schedules as this is a very highly agricultural community, but I don't know that I really buy into that thought.
Also, our neighbors are shooting off firecrackers. Hello, the 4th of July was almost a month ago.
Is it bad that I don't know?
I'm pretty sure that we have some meetings that last week of August and then the kids will start sometime during the week after the labor day holiday.
Noooooo!!! This discussion can't be happening! I'm trying to pretend like school is not starting soon.
I've been out since the beginning of June, so I can't complain. I just feel like summer is flying by.
I go back on the 15th and the kiddos start with a half day on the 19th. I got my class list a while ago, so it is exciting to know who my kids are.
It's funny as I'm looking for classroom decorations right now. Anyone have a cute border that has incorporates pink, blue, purple, green, and yellow? Basically, just something bright and cheery? I changed rooms this summer and everything is such a mismatch of colors. I think all my boards will be black with this magical colorful border.
Anyway, we go back August 15th for professional development and August 17th school starts. We do not get anytime to set up our rooms. I've already been in and moved furniture but nothing else.
Good luck everyone!
We go back August 22, the kids come back August 29th (move in day aka bring their supplies and get their lockers for an hour and then go home). They start back full time on the 30th.
Of course, I've spent all of July there doing a summer camp. blahhhh
I've spent all summer tutoring. I tutor 2 hours a day. It's great money but I've basically had NO summer.
Have you checked the Dollar Tree? I've gotten some cute and colorful ones there before.
I been tutoring this month too..so I go from camp to tutoring..ugh. I am going to start the year burned out!!
We start the Tuesday after labor day and get out mid-June, this year was the 17th.
Not sure when the teachers go back. I haven't gotten a job yet.
Great idea! I thought of that earlier in the summer but then forgot.
We go back Aug 8 and the kids come back Aug 15... we have two weeks for Christmas and two for Spring and are done around Jun 18th ish this year.... but it's all a week earlier than last year so THIS summer got cut by a week... c'est la vie...
I AM NOT READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's crazy! Here, band camp is always the last two weeks of August. Most of the staffs and some of the kids are involved with DCI, so it is hard to start any earlier.
