Frustrated (TTC vent)

So I had my ultrasound of my lady parts today....and I just feel so defeated, I cried half the way home. The good news: Everything looks good, all my parts are where they are supposed to be and look the way they are supposed to. I had taken the progesterone pills and had a period from Friday-Monday.

The bad news: Basically there is nothing else to do but wait. I guess I misunderstood what the prog pills would do...I figured they'd bring the period and I would start cycling and ovulating again. Evidently, they just strictly give you a period and that is all. There is nothing saying that I will ovulate or get a period until my body says it's time to get a period and ovulate and there is no telling when/if that will happen. So basically he told me to wait till Sept, if no period again, take another round of prog pills. After that if no period by Oct/Nov, then call and he'll see me again. I don't even get the point of the prog pills b/c they don't do anything but give me a period.

I'm just so frustrated and I feel like my body is failing me. I've been off BC for almost a year now and I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be this hard JUST to get a f-ing period. My mom told me maybe I should consider a 2nd opinion (I am planning on switching OB practices when I get preg anyways).

/vent over. Thanks for reading.

Re: Frustrated (TTC vent)

  • Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I thought the progesterone pills would get you back on track too. I don't think another opinion would hurt.  Just curious, why are you waiting until after you're pregnant to see another doctor?

  • Lots of hugs! I would agree maybe a second opinion might help esp if you are  thinking about switching anyway.
  • That is frustrating!  I definitely think a second opinion would be good as well.  Especially since you've been off BC for over a year.  The wait and see attitude just seems to me like he/she's a lazy doctor and could care less.

Ditto! At this point, it's time for a second opinion!  You deserve to know all of your options, and not simply be told to sit and wait - that seems so condescending!

  • Aw, I'm so sorry, but I know exactly how you feel. My body was doing the same thing for 6 months, so I understand the frustrations. Everything was fine with me as well, I just wasn't ovulating. Eventually your body will get back on track, but it's definitely worth a second opinion when you hit the one-year mark. You may just need to take some hormones to jump start ovulation and that is best done through an RE. (I know you know all this from the TTGP board). Just don't give up hope and please try not to blame yourself. I cried so much and blamed myself so much when things weren't working and that is only going to stress you out.

You can PM me or message me on FB if you ever need to talk or need more advice.

P.S. My SIL went through this for 4 YEARS and all that was wrong was her cycle timing was off and using drugs to stimulate ovulation did the trick. There's no need to wait that long, but it's just another example of everything being okay, just not working out quite right.

    Ditto

I am so sorry that you are dealing with this

  • Thank you so much for the support...there aren't a lot of people IRL I can talk to about this, and DH just keeps telling me "it'll be ok," which doesn't really help either. He's never been good with a crying wife lol.

The reason I was going to wait till I got pg to switch Dr's is just b/c I had been there for my annual in March and figured there was no need to switch b/c I wasn't expecting to need to go back. I think I'll give it till Sept and if no period, I'll call the Dr I want to switch to and ask to be seen.

You guys are the best <3

  • I am so sorry. I completely understand why you would be frustrated.  Maybe it is time to switch OBs now.

  • So sorry you are going through this! I agree with PPs definitely a visit to the new OB and/or second opinion would be best!
  • That is crazy...and I'm so sorry.  I never knew how much of a toll this took on people until I am the one actually going through it also.

    We're here for ya.

  • Wow so frustrating!!!!!!  Sorry, babe.  Things will work out, I know it's hard, but have patience and a little faith.  But I agree with everyone else, a second opinion won't hurt.  Just to cover all your bases, you know?
  • I would call the 2nd OB now. If you already have someone in mind, why wait until Sept to get her opinion? If you don't get your period in Sept, you will be going through this disappointment all over again, while a 2nd opinion may be able to get you started on hormones or something now. Just my two cents :)

I'm sorry you're going through this, but I guess the silver lining is that you are healthy and just need a little ovulation jump start!

  • I'm sorry :(

Since I work in the area of birth control I know that Depo takes a while to get out of a woman's system, but I didn't realize it was that long. Your doctor should have warned you about that. It might be time to look for a new OB; it's good to have a relationship with one already when you get pregnant. Which, I'm hoping is really soon!

  • I wouldn't worry about the fact that you just had your annual at your current doc.  Just get your medical records and take them to the new doc.  New doc should be able to review them and start where the lazy doc left off.

  • I am so sorry that is such hard news to hear. You will get there soon and we will be praying for you all the way.  ::hugs::

  • I am sorry you didn't get any answers.  Like PPs said, I would go to that new Dr now.  It can't hurt anything.  Who knows, maybe the new dr can give you more insight/help.  Good luck!!

  • So sorry :-(

Even though we are not TTC, I can still appreciate how frustrating this is for you. It does help to be able to share the both the joys and the not so joyful parts of the process - so please feel free to vent as often as you need to :-)

You made a comment in your post which reminded me of a Dixie Chicks song on their album "Taking The Long Way", called "So Hard". It was written by the sisters and was about their troubles conceiving and how it was "so hard". Great song, and you just made me think of it. Hang in there, honey!

  • I'm sorry you are having to go through this! :( I agree that getting a second opinion is a good idea, and may help put your mind at ease, because at least then you will have all the facts and know for sure you are getting good medical advice. Hang in there you may ovulate this month and then this worrying will be for nothing.I know it is a lot easier said then done but stressing isn't going to help your body. Hugs and I hope you get back on a regular cycle soon!
