candy RE: "clean eating"

So since DH has been gone I feel like Owen has been bouncing off the walls crazy. A lot has to do with the fact that he's 4, and also that i am single parenting right now. I don't give him a bunch of candy and have been trying to limit sweets/snacks. Also, within the last few days I seriously have been trying to buckle down and not give him anything with the artificial dyes (Red 40, yellow 5 and 6, Blue 1). I read the difference may take up to 2 weeks for his attitude to settle down.

Anyway, he is asking me if he can have a piece of candy and I figured I better figure out what he can have. So what can he have?! Also, where do i get it? Do i need to make a trip to Whole Foods?

anymore help/insight/advice on this topic would be great too!

  • I would make a trip to get some SunDrops... They are like M and M's without those dyes. I don't care for them but my nephew who has sensitivity to the coloring loves them!
  • You could check the health section at hyvee, I know they have chocolates and stuff, but I've never look that closely.

  • No advice for ya but what does taking those dyes out do?

  • Holly, I was thinking about this last night, you could trip Trader Joe's. Also, I know someone who is trying to peddle a line of products (including DESSERTS!) made without dyes, preservatives, etc AND has a tasting this weekend! ;-)

Cats, it is believed that some kids cannot handle the dyes and it can cause a host of issues, including hyperactivity. Other people believe that humans really cannot handle anything artificial.
