PIP Wednesday

Just wondering...what are you reading?  Or tell us about a book or two that you read lately and loved!

PS  I haven't been able to get my hands on our July book club selection :(  Is anyone reading that?  If so, wanna start the discussion on Goodreads in a few days for me?  :)

Re: PIP Wednesday

  • Just finished this last night!  Highly recommend - I could.not.put.it.down!

  • This book is awesome. It's technically young adult, but if you're into dystopian societies and what people think the future could look like, this is really good. It's along the same lines as the Hunger Games, but I actually liked this a lot better. The author is also only 22 and this is her first novel (written while she was still in college), which just blows my mind.

  • Just purchased it... Love reading the book before the movie comes out 8/10.

  • Ha, Allison and Liz, I recently read both of those books and loved them both! I also really liked Shanghai Girls by Lisa See, which you would like if you liked Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

I am currently reading the July book club selection off and on and for some reason it's not grabbing me so I've been reading other books along the way too. I just finished this one:

    Then Came You

It's by one of my favorite authors and is about people undergoing fertility treatment so I bought it the day it came out. I didn't love it as much as I thought I would though.

  • What is the new book club selection? I haven't been keeping up because I've so busy with other things, but I need new books!

Wes Moore spoke at my work conference in June, and compelled me to read his book. It was really good and I want my stepson to read at least the intros and perhaps get some perspective on why we're upset that he is blowing his opportunity at his private school which is costing beaucoup bucks. We'll see if he cooperates :-P

It's a really easy read, and isn't too pricey. I read it over the course of last weekend front to back!

This is one of those books that I've always wanted to read b/c I'm embarrassed that I haven't. I'm only about 1/6 of the way into it.

  • Just finished this and I LOVED IT. Can't wait to see the movie!

p.s. I love Snow Flower soooo much. DH knows all about that book because I would talk about "Snow Flower" like she was real. Ha. Shanghai Girls is by the same author (not sure if it's a sequel or not) and my MIL highly recommended it - but I haven't gotten there yet.

  • I really liked our book club book from a few months ago..

I just started it yesterday.  The wait list was forever long at the library, so I just went ahead and bought it Saturday from Borders.

Ditto! I couldn't put this down, it was so much fun to read!

I hope to read "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" - this is the woman whose aggressive cancer cells were taken and immortalized for cell biology research, and they have been used in almost every cell biology lab since and have been responsible for so many treatments, vaccines, and therapies!  Oh, and I use them daily :)

I love the "In Death" series. It is set about 50-60 years in the future, but done so subtly with all of the changes of the world. The main character is a female homicide cop...with a super sexy Irish husband (that has been cast by Gerard Butler in my mind) with quite...um...well written erotic scenes. : )

I have read some of the ones that were released recently, but started from the beginning so I can read them all, and this is the second in the series.

I had Henrietta Lacks from the library and couldn't get interested in it. From the reviews I've read it's kind of a love it or hate it thing, and people who are more into the science aspect tend to love it. That means you! :)

This was the last book that I finished, and I simply loved it!!! I am counting down until the movie opens in a couple of weeks :-))

BTW - Great post!!! I've been in need of some fresh reading material!
