How long to give a new job

Before deciding it is the wrong fit? I had a couple of offers, ended up choosing one but had a lot of second thoughts. I've now started the job, but it just doesn't seem right. I don't want to quit before I have something else, but I just am not sure how long to give it before starting to look again.

Re: How long to give a new job

  • For me, a lot of factors would go into it. It would also strongly depend on how and why you feel it's a wrong fit. Personality? Then I would just suck it up for now. Do you think it's not a good fit for your skills and you will not perform well and end up losing the job anyway?
  • Definitely need more infomration.

If my boss was verbally abusive I'd quit asap.  Actually I'd probably get fired because I'd stand up for myself unrelentlessly (as I've done in the past).

If the work wasn't a good fit I would do my very best to turn things around, try to make the best of it, learn new skills, reach for new opportunities.  Again, as I've done in the past.

So,what is going on with your work?

  • Every job is different.

SOme you can tell straight away that it's not a fit for you; some you have to wait several months until the votes are in.

Play it by ear. And trust your gut. Good luck.
