I think I remember you taking prenatal yoga (and if I'm going crazy forgive me lol) If you don't mind me asking, where did you take your classes out of and what did you think of them?

  • Yep, I do.  You're not having pregnancy brain yet!  I don't know if I'll be much help though.  I take classes at the Summit in Canton (basically our community center).  You have to pay more if you're a non-resident, but anyone can sign up.  I think I ended up paying $35/5 sessions this time, but each session varies in length.

I really really like it.  Firstly, it gets you off your butt during pregnancy, which is so important.  Also, it really focuses on breathing and concentration which should help during labor.  And some of the stretches/exercises are right out of the baby books/classes.  I would like to go drug-free, so its nice to have an additional source to reinforce all this stuff.

Other than that, its also a nice place where you can come talk to other pregnant women in your area.  I would definitely suggest it!

  • Thanks for the info! I live in Livonia but grew up in Canton so I'm familiar with the Summit. I'll have to do some looking around at prices, etc.

I definitely want to get into a class, and relatively soon if possible. I have scoliosis, and had a spinal fusion surgery 8 years ago. I have two rods that go from my neck to my tailbone bracing my spine - so I'm hoping to find a nice, natural way to manage back pain in the coming months. Also, I have to go drug free - I don't an option for an epidural because of all the equipment in my back, so I'm excited to hear that this might help with that as well!

    Thanks again for the help!

  • If you are interested in looking into the summit, we actually just started a session this week.  I think the next one starts on Aug. 29, or maybe the week after labor day.  I think you could still sign up, but you'd probably have to pay full price even though you missed a week.  I think someone on the bump may have mentioned a studio in northville a while back, if you wanted to search there.

I think yoga would be great for you.  Its totally low impact so it should be pretty easy on your back.  And they know you're pregnant, so they don't push you too hard.

  • What time/date is your class this session? I was trying to find the info on the website but couldn't - so I'm sure it's right in front of my face someplace there! lol.

  • I think this should take you right to the online registration:

    here

If that doesn't work (it's ridiculously long) go here: http://leisure.canton-mi.org/registration.aspx and click on the 'Register now' graphic on the right. That'll open a new page and if you use yoga as your search term it'll be on the second page.
