Teachers: When do you go back?

Teachers report August 10, and we have students on August 16.

I look at the calendar everyday and wonder where summer went!!

I'm going to my classroom for the first time tomorrow. This will be my first year teaching, so I've got the entire thing to setup. I'm really nervous I haven't given myself enough time to get everything ready. I spent way too much time this summer on my part-time photography business, and not enough time getting ready for the school year. I'm totally kicking myself for it now. I've still got 20 days to make up for it, though, and I plan on making the best of it!!

Re: Teachers: When do you go back?

  • you will be fine, don't stress!  What level are you teaching?  If I were you I would try to find out when other teachers on your team will be there to set up, you can get some great ideas from the veteran teachers.  I don't go back until the end of August and we have orientation for our families on Sept 2nd then the kids don't start until the 6th.

  • Breathe!  You can do it!

I go back at the beginning of September and have kids right after labor day.  Based on how busy I've been this summer, I think I would cry if I had to go back in August.  When does school end for you?  We end late June.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • I go back August 17th and the kids begin on the 29th. We're going back a week earlier this year, which means we have a shorter summer :-(. We finish on June 12th next year.

  • Inservice begins August 24.  Kids' first day is August 30.

Don't stress it!  You have time to gather you thoughts, figure out your plans, and set up your room.  If you had focused on these things all summer, you would feel like you hadn't had a summer and could burn out sooner.  The first year is tough, I won't lie, and you need to make time for yourself and life outside of school.  That's what you did this summer.  Now, you seem ready to start focusing more on prepping for school.

    Good luck!

  • Teachers go back Aug 25th, and the students return Aug 29th.  I dont want summer to end, but am super excited for this school year at the same time
  • You have plenty of time! My first year teaching I signed the contract on Monday and school started on that Wednesday!!

For right now though I'm just planning on subbing this year unless I can find something. The district that I want to get into and that I sub for has inservice on the 22nd (first day of teaching contract) and kids come on the 23rd of August.

  • I go back on Aug. 15th with an inservice before that on the 11th. Kids come on the 16th.  I will be doing paperwork, scheduling, and evals mostly the first week.  Summer did fly by!  I am glad to have had it to refresh.  The school year comes too quick!!
