Trip Advice Please

I'm flying out to go to H's BMT graduation early tomorrow morning. Does anyone have any advice or tips from their experiences going to graduations? I would love advice. I'm at that stage where I'm crazy excited to see him but I'm also a little nervous about the trip. I want everything to be as close to perfect as possible and go off without a hitch. So let me know. I'd love to hear stories of what to do and what not to do.

Re: Trip Advice Please

  • You can give him a quick hug and a peck when you first see him, but after that, absolutely no PDA while he's in uniform.  Don't reach for his hand or try to be snuggly on him.

  • Dress appropriately!!! You are not going to the club. Everybody knows you want your DH to think you look fantastic, but save the lingerie and the 5-inch heels for the hotel room. Please.

This. I didn't know the rules about PDA and spent the whole afternoon after graduation p!ssed because he wouldn't hold my hand or be affectionate.

  • Ditto what others have mentioned. If your H wants the platoon specific items like t-shirts & coins I would recommend purchasing them at the end of the day. It's crowded and it will suck lugging that stuff around especially when it's hot.

Take lots of pictures of the ceremony itself. My H loves looking at the pictures of them on the parade deck because it brings back good memories.

It's ok if y'all seem a little off at first. Remember that your H has had little to no freedom and now he can do whatever he wants. A lot has happened in the last few months and it takes some adjusting.

    Have fun!

Does this change later, once they get used to the uniform and rules?  I didn't date H until after he got his wings (which took a few yearsafter ROTC, and I'm not a snuggly person, but I'll give him a kiss on the lips or grab his arm (old fashioned style) and he doesn't care.

  • I'll try for porno tongue next time, just to report back.  Is there a graduation from SOS?  That's the next one, but I don't plan on going (am I an assholio wife for not even knowing if spouses go?)

I just figured the more time in service, the less they cared.  And as everyone knows, we're apparently old (OMG, my eggs are shriveling right now.  Better grab another glass of wine).

  • Heh.  I haven't been to anything, either.  I think SOS is about a month, and it only counts for about 3 graduate hours when they're already expected to basically have their master's finished (or nearly finished).  That's not worth flying in for.  3 effing hours?  I can do that from my computer :P  I'm sure there will be some event since that seems to accompany everything (oh, hey, DV in town, let's have an event and serve white zin from a box and call it red wine... true story).

  • Our AFI was just updated last week and is now very specific about PDA.

Link please?  Just out of idle curiosity.  Also, I have a feeling it's amusing to read something so specific about PDA :)
